whity63
Hi all, I'm a big Rush fan in Italy, I thought it was a good idea to let you know that I finished the building of the Tama Superstar Neil Peart replica set used between '79 and '81 for the recordings of Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures and Exit...Stage Left!. The project took more than one year and a half to make. Below are a couple of pictures you can click and enlarge http://img153.exs.cx/img153/6063/tamalastupdate2.th.jpg http://img238.exs.cx/img238/2188/tamalastupdate3.th.jpg You can find more pictures (14) and a couple of shots for comparison taken from ESL dvd at: http://groups.msn.com/TamaSuperstar go to the Images section forever! CygnusX-1Bk2
Wow! Nice job. My friend Adam won the actual kit and the only difference I can see is the gong bass drum stands. The ones that Adam got from Neil were a bit more bulky and have wheels. Also all of the hardware is brass plated. On the right bass drum, between the toms on the counterhoop, Neil screwed in a tension rod top to hold a drum key. The mounts on the bass drums were epoxied in place by Neil and Larry. Adam put together two replica kits for rehearsals, one Slingerland and he is currently building a Tama. Did you Vibra-Fibe it? Looks like the concert toms are natural inside so I assume not. Adam, sans gong drums: http://home.earthlink.net/~jcdiazjr/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/7-3-04_adam5.jpg

You're right, the toms are not vibrafibed, that particular process was offered only by Percussion Centre if I remember correctly, also the shells don't have reinforcing rings because I have used Tama shells and not the old Camcos which are very hard if not impossible to find. Probably if I lived in America it would have been easier but believe me, living in Italy it has been a difficult project. Your help has been very precious. Since you know very well the set if you feel there are things that can get better please let me know. CygnusX-1Bk2
Yes Alessandro I remember you. I just realized as I was forwarding your photos to Adam. You did a great job! I don't know how much better you can get. How did you do the finish? It looks really good.

slammz
That is a very nice kit!! I have a 3 piece kit that looks similar to yours in a 14x24 bass drum, 12x14 rack tom and 16x16 floor tom. Except the hardware is chrome not brass or gold plated. Sorry no pics at this time but Im sure you'll get the idea!! Welcome to the forum!
