I'm pretty sure he uses these:

Dean Markley Blue Steel Custom Light .009-.046

If I'm remembering correctly, those were his strings up until S&A, then he jumped up to the Light Top/Heavy Bottom set, which is .010-.052.

Well, he gets his for free.

Yeah, for me to use Markleys I'd have to get them for free, too.

I've tried the Blue Steels, and they lost sustain quite fast.......not sure if it was a bad set or what.......

Yep, that's what I remember about Markleys -- they go dead rather fast. They're fine if you're Alex Lifeson and you change your strings before each and every gig. Of course, it also helps to have an endorsement deal that supplies you with all the strings you'll ever need for free. We hacks don't have that luxury. sad.gif

What is a good brand of string that you would recommend? I have been playing D'ddario XL .10s ever since I picked up the guitar. Any suggestions?

That's what I use and I'm real happy with them.

Not to mention the techies to put said free strings on guitar for you.

I've been using Ernie Balls for years now. I like how D'Addarios sound, but I found the wound strings had too much finger slide noise as compared to other brands. I've never heard anyone else complain about that, so maybe it's just me, but I found that extra noise to be annoying.

Sucks, because D'Addarios are made right here on Long Island, and I would love to use only their stuff. I do use their Phosphor Bronze acoustic strings, though.

I remember hearing that too. I use the Blue Steel .009 .046 as well and have for years. As far as the strings loosing sustain quickly, I haven't noticed but I change my strings every two weeks. I play once a week with a band and maybe once or twice on my own. I just love the sound of fresh strings, they are just so bright and clear. I hate playing on dead strings.
