HowItIs
QUOTE (CMWriter @ Jan 2 2011, 07:32 PM)I came across something so fabulous in Neil's book Roadshow that I just had to share it with you ladies. ;D QUOTE (Neil Peart) (Writing that he's never understood why the audience at Rush shows is predominantly male...) It's a mystery to me, although it does seem that the female fans we do have often understand our music in the deepest possible way, appreciating not only its technicality, but its passion, too. They are often more sensitive to the lyrics - which naturally pleases their author! (I squee'd a little when I read that. But continuing on...) QUOTE Perhaps because of their scarcity, I always loved to see females in the audience singing along, or air-drumming, or even dancing. However, given the complexity... in the music - no mindless twitching to a metronomic beat. And just when i thought I couldn't adore this man even more -- he proves me wrong. I want to write him a letter. "Dear Mr. Peart, I was dancing through the entire show!! I couldn't stay still and just listen!!" I've had Roadshow less than 36-48 hours and I'm already a quarter of the way through it. Sooooo good. I did the same thing when I read that... SQUEEE! Don't understand how anyone can sit still when there's live music being played. I can't get up and dance anymore but I boogie down in my seat! As for the lyrics... I can tell, just from the short time I've been a member here on TRF that our ladies are quite well-read and intellectual. And passionate. Yes, Neil, we totally get your lyrics and we grok them in a way the guys just don't. I loved Roadshow and Traveling Music and, of course, Ghost Rider touched me in ways I can't describe. For me, as awesome a percussionist as Neil is, he is an even better writer.

I could use this as my phone's background. Would be perfect. |D And I could tell all my friends about it. It's been awhile. http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/rr250/VarianStar/Neil7.jpg That smile... Whoa, I'm being tempted by Neil again! But all of the Rush guys have amazing smiles, including Geddy. I can't help myself. Too many Rushing hormones, I'm telling ya.
HowItIs
Thanks, VS. Nice choices! This is another nice shot... http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd103/laserspray/Rush/snakes-and-arrows-25-s.jpg Neil is a musician-who-is-too-busy-concentrating-to-smile. Like Tony Banks. So when we see them smile it's a nice gift.
realomind
Thanks VarianStar and HowItIs for the great pics, VS, that colour shot featuring the very toned calf muscle is a personal fav of mine (used to have it as an avatar). Here's another nice shot from the brilliant Holly Carlyle, I don't think this one appears as much as the others from that collection so hopefully it'll be new to some folks. Rushchick10
Still, one of my absolute fave pictures of Neil is this: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs629.snc4/58939_1622986622390_1468216679_31637756_5180685_n.jpg Even makes this devoted Geddy girl all mushy inside... Mara
QUOTE (HowItIs @ Jan 16 2011, 07:45 PM) Thanks, VS. Nice choices! So when we see them smile it's a nice gift. Neil doesn't really smile unless it's for real - he isn't someone who feels compelled to manufacture a grin just because there's a camera trained on him. So those very real smiles that reach his eyes and light up his face. . .awww, I just melt.
TwentyOneTwelve
OK. I will freely admit that I am not a frequent NWW poster simply because I don't fancy any of the guys, (sorry, don't kill me! ) HOWEVER, every once in while I'll catch something I like. The odd photo, or era. This is my era: http://www.drummagazine.com/images/gear/081010-neil-peart.jpg http://us.ent2.yimg.com/musicfinder.yahoo.com/images/yahoo/atlantic/rush/neil1.jpg http://www.andrewolson.com/Neil_Peart/neil_images/neil_hyf4.jpg OK I lied. I like this one too! http://www.rushisaband.com/images/200911/1371.f.jpg Oh and Neil fans.... if I WAS to be pushed... Neil in the mid to late 80s/early 90s, would win hands down! Whoa, I'm getting all romantic. And I'm being tempted by Neil! Again. And to each her own, TwentyOneTwelve. A large part of the reason I love Rush as I do is because of the bandmembers. Not only are they all attractive (Geddy especially ), but they each possess incredible talent that no one can match. As of now, I fancy all three of them. Don't worry, we won't kill you. We're good people, I promise.

I read in Roadshow ("Here she goes, on and on about one of his books again..") that he actually imagines his dog on the other side of the lens instead of a cameraperson so that it's a true smile. I thought that was really kind of neat. ...I'm pretty sure I just imagine Neil himself. In leather. That always makes me smile.
HowItIs
Them's some nice pictures on this page. Just lovely. This is a man who is completely genuine - there is no pretense there. I find that so admirable in someone in the public eye. Not to mention those drummer muscles..... move over Mara... I'm melting too...
