Rush should be in the R&R Hall of Fame

meh, don't want them in that corrupted hall of fame....I think they are good without it! But thats just me! I don't need a hall of fame to tell me that Rush is great....cuz I already know they are!

That is true, but just because they aren't in the Hall Of Fame doesn't mean that they aren't good. No one can tell me that Rush is in any way not worthy of the Hall Of Fame, I just think that Rush would be better off not in the Hall Of Fame, and I think that they would say the same thing.

The "industry" has been hell-bent since day-one to disrespect the Boyz. I agree with all who say that they shouldn't even be inducted now. Screw that. That would be an insult, IMO.

All this machinery making modern music can still be open-hearted

Not so coldly charted it's really just a question of your honesty

Yeah, your honesty

One likes to believe in the freedom of music

But glittering prizes and endless compromises

Shatter the illusion of integrity

Meh. The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inducts groups by how popular they are to the public, and not the actual quality of the songs.

Thus proving your point, war2112.

Yea isn't britney spears in it? confused13.gif 062802puke_prv.gif 062802puke_prv.gif 062802puke_prv.gif

The 2 or 3 strangers I met, and told that I went to see Rush in concert last year had their eyes light up like a Christmas tree.

Rush maybe the most underrated rock band of all time in the view of the media. fing.gif

Correct. But I am glad for that. Keeps them away from fans who don't really appreciate good music, unlike the users at TRF.

I don't what its like elsewhere in the world, but, here in the UK, I tend to look upon Rush as the biggest cult band here. The only thing is that their hard-core cult following is bigger than most other bands without hangers on.

The main reason they don't tend to chart is because most people I know who are into Rush, buy their releases at specialist shops that are linked into the computers that calculate the charts, hence their general non-appearence.

And who could forget Bill Corgan's (Smashing Pumpkins) protest at Rush's lack of membership in the RnRHOF?

I am a professional guitarist. I also have many years experience in the business side of music, hold a BSBA in management, and start my MBA Fall 2005. The "biz" is firmly in the grips of big business, profit margins, and an assembly line of non-unique, cookie-cutter product. A&R folks, most of the ones I've met anyway, speak about product, target & niche markets, the value of the 'tween segment (females, aged 8-11), and project life cycle. They quote statistics, and I actually heard one say -- and I'm paraphrasing here -- "...our goal is ten new acts each year of which we expect 9 to be one-hit wonders. The tenth might get lucky with their second album but we don't expect much market viability thereafter from that act..."

Scary proposition to musicians who care about their craft and artistic expression in an era where talent and ability go largely unrecognized and mediocrity in art, lack of talent, superior good looks and zero artistic integrity gets the kudos.

Seriously, just how the hell do record companies and FM radio justify such stellar acts like Ashlee Simpson, The White Stripes, Britney Spears, the slew of Boy "Bands" we were all mercilessly attacked with? How about all the sound-alike so-called NuMetal bands? I know for me that whether I listen to Fly By Night or Earthshine, or any song from the catalog in between the two, Rush STILL sounds fresh and innovative.

I say screw the industry 19.gif and its meaningless awards. Let Rush balst them all off the stages of the world and let God sort 'em out after the smoke clears. 2.gif

Rant over.

Peace

Art as expression, not market campaigns

Will still capture our imaginations

The RRHOF does not like prog rock. Anytihng associated with Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone magazine will not recognize prog rock.

Neil Peart has an interesting passage in his book Travelling Music about prog rock, and he does talk about Rolling Stone in there as well. Read the book if you haven't already. He talks about music a lot. I was shocked to read that he went to a Madonna concert, too.

He took his daughter, if I'm not mistaken, and to a NKOTB show. Like the music or not, you'll do anything for your kids. I shudder to think who'll be in vogue when my daughter hits her teens.
