Jack Aubrey
Jo Blo reports: Hugh Jackman has signed a deal with Disney to develop multiple theatrical musicals for the actor to star in and produce through his new production company. Ironically it's likely that the first film Jackman produces through his company will likely be either X-MEN 3 or WOLVERINE, whichever gets off the ground first. Disney execs began to think of ways to develop projects for Jackman after seeing his performance on Broadway in "The Boy From Oz." The actor had been offered musical roles in film before - most notably the Richard Gere role in CHICAGO - but had turned them down. Disney is expected to develop as many as three projects at once the majority of which are expected to be original material. While Jackman wouldn't rule out a remake, he said he'd prefer to find "something new." Jackman is currently filming THE FOUNTAIN with Rachel Weisz for Darren Aronofsky. After CHICAGO revitalized the musical genre, a number of projects are currently in the works to capitalize on that success. THE PRODUCERS, HAIRSPRAY and RENT are all scheduled to go into production in 2005.
