I'll give it 4,5/5.

5/5 = Just really brilliant. Awesome, a mind-shaking classic.

4,5/5 = Really good. Something that is awesome.

4/5 = Something I can call good. Something I really like.

3,5/5 = This is a good album. It's still missing something, but mainly this album is something i'm interested in.

3/5 = Kinda average. Something good.

2,5/5 = Average. A bit boring, Nothing really good.

2/5 = Boring album, nothing that would interest me.

1,5/5 = Bad album.

1/5 = Just crap. I don't see any possibilities with this album.

0,5/5 = I do nothing with this kind of an album. It's waste of time. Terrible!

2112, Passage, Something for Nothing...all 5/5. Twilight, Lessons, Tears...all 3/5. Overall 4/5. I rate Hemispheres higher for more even material. There I said it...bring it on. I'll add that when I listen to the album today, the sound and production is so minimalist compared to the overly hot noise they create today. Edited by HemiBeers

2112 is classic, but not perfect

Toymaker has his Permanent Waves crusade, and this is mine:

2112 was the pretty much last album that Garden Road could have fit on - by A Farewell To Kings, things were different ...

You put Garden Road on Side 2 of 2112, extend Tears to 10 minutes and dump Lessons and The Twilight Zone, and BOOM, you have the greatest album of all time ..

Bob Ezrin should have produced ... He never would have gone with that "tuning the guitar" distraction nonsense either ..

And I don't like the way Something For Nothing Ends

That said, it is still a 4.5 outta 5

No. Garden Road does not fit on 2112. Maybe COS, maybe. Most likely FBN. No way Lessons gets dumped for that.

It gets a 5 all the way.

Is it perfect?.....no, it isn't, but it is a landmark epic, made at a time when the band were fighting for their creative lives, and decided to gamble all on going with all guns blazing rather than bowing to record company pressure and playing it safe.

You can feel the anger and rebellion rippling through the whole record, the sense of injustice and a desire to "stick it to the man".

It's lightning captured in a bottle, their time to strike while the iron was hot, and they certainly did.
