I know the answer to this question has been posted, but I can't find it. Is there a story behind the chickens onstage and the comments in the opening video? 2.gif

Just another Geddy gimmick of humor. Chicken roasters replacing the clothes dryers from R30 and the sometimes rotating food dispensor. tongue.gif

I don't know, but when I'm at the supermarket and see cooked rottiserie chickens on display, it brings me back to the show memories.

Well, I heard on a local rock radio show here in Portland that the humor behind the chickens, washers/dryers, etc. is due to Geddy not using amps behind him to be able to hear himself play, rather he uses earphones or something to that effect. I'm not a musician so don't remember the exact terminology of his equipment, but that's the jist. Apparantly, according to the show, Geddy is mocking Alex for still using stacks behind him by replacing his with the chicken roasters.

I'm not sure how true any of this is, but it makes some sense to me.

To start off, Geddy plays directly into the house sound and by doing that bypasses the use of amps/cabinets. To bring balance to the stage he felt the need to put something behind him. Since Geddy has a very funny and dry sense of humor, you get things like dryers and roasters. laugh.gif

Anyone care to speculate on what might be behind there on the next tour?

Alex runs Palmer speaker simulators, too. That's what the audience is hearing the P.A. Alex just uses his cabinets as stage volume monitors. So Geddy thought that why can't I also have a wall of things I don't really need behind me too. I can't find the original quote, but it was something like that.

ok guys, thanks for the responses. I always get my questions answered here. I know why there are roasters, or dryers, etc. behind Geddy. Just thought there was significance with the chickens since it's also mentioned in the opening video. And as you know, they don't add something unless it pertains to something.

Never-mind the chickens.. what about the bunnies?? Or the appliances, and the naked men?? Or the fact that the 40th anniversary tour just ended but in a few months their 4th album will be 40 years old.. ? nothing makes sense in Rush land ..! Lol

They roasted the chickens to save$$$ on catering expenses for the band and crew.

Being a great bassist, singer, and keyboardist put aside...Geddy managed to do something that is thought to be impossible by many.....

He made the chicken dance cool. (The spirit of radio choruses)
