Make it go away

Pags

Recommended Posts

This started a few days ago. It appears when I first start up windows, and I've also seen it appear when I open my Windows Explorer.

How do I get it to stop? Any help?

Oh, btw, I run Windows 2000 Professional, and from the surface this does not appear to inhibit my use.

Thanks!!

Yo - that file exists onmy w2k machine and reads:

@echo off

REM AUTOEXEC.BAT is not used to initialize the MS-DOS environment.
REM AUTOEXEC.NT is used to initialize the MS-DOS environment unless a
REM different startup file is specified in an application's PIF.

REM Install CD ROM extensions
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\mscdexnt.exe

REM Install network redirector (load before dosx.exe)
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\redir

REM Install DPMI support
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\dosx

Open it up with notepad.exe and compare. I get no errors with mine.

Woah, I couldn't locate the file in the SYSTEM32 folder. I did a search for it, and it came up under C:\WINNT\repair.

Yikes. I opened the file and all of the text matches what you sent. Should I just move it back into the SYSTEM32 folder? What could have sent the file there in the first place? unsure.gif

I have had this before. It caused my music programs not to operate properly. There is a fix for this. You can download it from Microsoft.com or search for it on the net yourself. The way I found a fix for this in the first place was to type the message that appears into a search bar and follow the links you find from there. I had a link saved to favorites but the link "cannot be found." I will look for another one and post it if I find it. Fear not it will go away. comp26.gif

Did this work for you Paganoman? confused13.gif comp26.gif

Thanks Drum. I went to the link and read the instructions. I'm at the office, and my Windows 2000 CD is at the house. I'll attempt this tonight.

I appreciate yours and Barney's help!! trink38.gif
