barney_rebel
Had the best dinner I've had in a long time tonight... too bad I couldn't open my mouth to chew it. The seafood here is amazing. It's actually a lot better now. I can rotate my cheek 1/2 way without clicking, but don't even want to attempt to open it all the way. pixey
I have TMJ too, it sucks. I tried wearing the bite plate but it was a pain in the butt so I quit wearing it a long time ago. I have constant headaches now ( got one right now). A couple of weeks ago I literally came unhinged! My jaw popped out of place and I had to go to the emergency room to have it put back in, didnt hurt just pulled WAY down on my jaw. It looked quite funny. So many reasons why you can get it though. Just go to a good dentist and see what happens.

esmeralda
QUOTE (barney_rebel @ Nov 30 2004, 02:40 PM) For the past month or two, if I yawn, I have to click it back in to place. As I open my mouth and close it, I feel a click. Damn it feels like crap... OWWWW it's painful... Anyone know of anyone or have jaw problems? I hope it's not permanently screwed... When I was about 17 or 18 years old, I also had a yawn and than my jaw pushed over the other and it stayed that way, so my mouth couldn't shut anymore. I kinda panicked, but my mom stayed calm and talked to me so that I became calm, and after a while and a bit rubbing the jaw got back, but since than, i can click my jaws over one another, whenever I like But also when I yawn or my mouth opens to wide, than it still clicks. It doesn't hurt though. Hope you understand this, don't know if the words are oke.
barney_rebel
Owww it clicked twice when biting down on an egg McMuffin. Shiddy. It's been almost a week - would a dentist be more appropriate than a doctor?
Alsgalpal
Sweets, you need a specialist. Dentists work with teeth, but may be able to refer you to a good specialist.... Sorry its so bad, I know how bad it hurts when it flares up... (((hugs)))

Sounds like TMJ disorder, which I have had since I was about ten. I don't know how it started, one day my jaw just came out of joint. Thankfully mine has never hurt, and though dentists have recommended surgery I won't do it. Somebody I know who had TMJ had the surgery and has been in pain ever since. One dentist suggested I have a device made to wear in my sleep that would ease the jaw back into joint, but the cost was too expensive and my dental insurance wouldn't cover it. barney_rebel
I do wear a night-gaurd for my teeth.... wondering if this CAUSED it I've been wearing it for less than a year.
Sodoff Baldrick
Is the guard made from a mold of your teeth? That's what they wanted to do for me. If not, that might contribute, but I see how a night guard could get your jaw out of joint.
barney_rebel
Yeah they form fitted it for my mouth so I don't grind my teeth. Luckily my work health benefits covered it. This weekend, I didn't bother to sleep with it..
barney_rebel
So now the dentist may be suspecting the night0gaurd they gave me could have caused this. For F sakes...
Dweezil
TMJ-suffered for years. Met this dentist who was trying a new way to cure TMJ. Got a retainer-(like kids get) that you crank every day to widen your mouth(Okay, I know, that's where my big mouth came from. Your teeth feel real loose. Because bone and teeth are living, they can be manipulated. The common belief is that once you are an adult, you cannot move the teeth etc as well as children's. Wrong. After the cranking period was done, I was fitted with braces. All of this corrects your bite. Am done with all the appliances and braces. My teeth look fab and no TMJ. A huge relief to have TMJ gone. I was chucking back T4's almost daily. Better than having to go do surgery, which was the only other option for me.
barney_rebel
Just got back from the dentist and he thinks I pulled one muscle on the right side of my haw, causing it discomfort. He gave me a series of exercises to do over the next couple of weeks to see if it helps.
