The Notorious B.S.G.
So much to discuss! The rich American cinematic history is chock-full of exciting thrillers, weepy dramas, rip-snorting comedies, historical tutorials, Shakespearean drama, epic space battles. (Yes, I'm struggling for an angle, a take, a handle on such a broad topic.) Let's chat amongst ourselves, shall we? As a first potential topic, I offer, for your perusal, that corpulent corpse, Mr. Alfred Hitchcock. What's your favorite Hitch-flick? Have you ever seen his only Best Picture Academy-Award winning picture, "Rebecca"? Who was Hitch's best actor? Was it Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, Janet Leigh, Vera Miles, Anthony Perkins, Tippi Hedren, Joan Fontaine, Joseph Cotten, Joel McRea? (Do you have any clue who I'm talking about? Test for Echo!) Please break up into small discussion groups of 3-5 persons and discuss. Then report back to the group. Or just discuss amongst ourselves. Whatevuh! "Bridge On The River Kwai" Yeah, baby, yeah! David Lean in da house!!!

The Notorious B.S.G.
As for my favorite, I've always been torn between several Hitch-flicks: North By Northwest - For sheer fun, wit, thrills, chills, sexual puns Rear Window - For the genius of plot, suspense, and the editing, which is a masterpiece of montage Vertigo - A disturbing character study, brilliantly played by the under-rated Jimmy Stewart (who was loved by audiences but not respected enough as an actor IMO), plot twists galore, mucho suspense Foreign Correspondent - Somewhat obscure film made in 1940, when Britain stood alone against Nazi Germany. Highly recommended for fans of intrigue and suspense. Psycho - The prototype for the modern horror film, executed flawlessly by the Master. There are many more, of course. If I had to pick one, it's still North By Northwest, after all these years.
madra sneachta
Best Hitchcock film in my view was The Birds. Also the scariest movie of all time in my book. Ghouls, ghosts and poltergeists don't bother me, but when I see more than eight birds perched on a telephone wire, I walk just a little bit faster
The Notorious B.S.G.
OK! Time to bump this thread. Here we go: Folks tell us all about your all-time favorite classic movie. By classic, let me say........................ oh, before 1990. For me, it's a tough choice, but I will still go with "North By Northwest" which I have already praised in this thread, Anyone?................Anyone?...................... Bueller?........................ Bueller?

GhostGirl
Back to Hitchcock for a moment...I haven't seen many of his films (*hangs head in shame*)...BUT: *Psycho has got to be one of the best, for reasons stated already. *I have seen Rebecca (actually I own it) and it's one of my favorite movies, ever. I loved the book before I even knew there was a movie, so imagine my surprise when I realized it was a Hitchcock film.
