limeloaf
I'm currently running... - Amplification - Peavey Special 130 Solo Series 300 watt amp - Old Yamaha Powered Speaker - Soft Synths - Arturia ARP 2600 - Arturia Minimoog - Arturia Moog Modular - GMedia Minimonsta - Arturia MTron - Korg Legacy Collection - Arturia CS-80 - Computer Programs - Reason - Cubase SX - Midi Controllers - Fatar/Studiologic SL-161 61 Key - Cheap 49 Key Radioshack keyboard that functions as a midi controller - Interfaces Tascam US-122 Audio/Midi Interface - Synth Modules - Roland SH-32. This thing is simply incredible, one of the best VA synths i've ever played. All of my Soft Synths are VSTi's in Cubase. I run my SL-161 through the Tascam into my computer and output from the Tascam in Stereo through my amp + powered speaker. I run my Radioshack controller through the SH-32 with one output going straight to my amp and one output going through the Tascam. My set-up is fairly simple and I plan on getting a Minimoog Voyager in the next year. I'll post pics soon. Tell me about your rigs! fledgehog
I've got a Yamaha PSR-730 hooked up to a cheap old karioke machine next to my drums -- I use it whenever I get a chance, in a lot of cases in the same way that Neil uses his Midi-thing, but in some cases to play a main synth part. I also have (in the "living room") an 1899 rebuilt Steinway, a 20-something year old Technics electric 88-key and an even older 2-keyboard 1-pedalboard Wurlitzer, I use those three more for classical playing, and they don't go gigging with me. PW_Guitarist
I'm a big fan of the Roland D-50. It's very versatile and has both decent analog and digitally sampled type sounds. I've gotten good results with it, and it seems to be able to do most of what I need. My MIDI chain is Roland PK-5 MIDI pedals -> Roland MC50 sequencer -> Roland D-550 with mutli-timbral add-on -> Akai S20 phrase sampler. I can play the sound module from both the pedals and the sequencer, and can trigger samples on the Akai with the pedals while the D-550 is on a silent patch. Rush!
I have an old Yamaha keyboard. It's pretty good, and I actually used to take piano lessons. But I haven't kept up with it so well now because I play drums. I should get back into playing it. I do sometimes, just messing around with it. CygnusX-1Bk2
I have a very cheap, but effective, Roland XP-10. It's a wavetable synth with some decent patches and nice functionality. I also have an M-Audio Radium 61 keyboard controller running Propellerheads' Reason on a Dell laptop through an Echo Indigo sound card. Reason is an awesome softsynth/smapler app that does everything you would want a synth or sampler to do. Also connected to the laptop is a Roland PK-5 pedal keyboard through an M-Audio 4x4 Midi Sport midi-usb interface (which is also connected to the XP-10). My first foray into synthesizers was a very cheap Yamaha DX-100. It was completely crappy.

Geds
I never noticed this thread before! I have a roland d-50, 2 roland mc-50 MKII sequencers, 2 Boss Dr. Rhythm drum machines and a kawai sound canvas, and a new 88 key weighted yamaha SO-8. But I have a question for the keyboardists here...I need to replace the d-50, and instead of buying another one since there are a ton of them out there, I want to get a good sampling keybaord and sample the 10 or 12 sounds I always use on the d-50 into it. What would you guys recommend for a really jam-up sampling keyboard...cost is not an issue. pm me your answers if you don't mind, that way I am sure to see them. Thanks! jrdrummer
I want a Minimoog Voyager so bad!! I have the Minimoog soft synth demo from Arturia, and it just makes me want one so much. Too expensive, I need to get a job next summer. I have a Casio WK-3000 that I got on accident from Ebay. I bought the WK-1630 model from a company on there and they gave me the 3000 (worth $100+ more!). Thats always nice. Right now I have it hooked up via Midi cables to my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS. I use Cakewalk Music Creator to compose songs and they play through it. Good stuff.

Ru5h F@n
I would love to talk about structures and styles. Tell me what kind you guys do. For me, I mainly used the 4 beat structure with a double bass overlay and harmonic overtone notes. I pretty much used the strings sound in most of my songs with a whole note sustain pattern. I always step recorded, unless it was a difficult part, then I would play in realtime. My tempo changed periodically but mostly it was 120 bps. For my drums, I would use a drum machine. When I write my lyrics, I go the standard 4 line system: 2 verses, 1 chorus with repeat, 2 verses. Edited December 15, 2006 by Ru5h F@n
Ru5h F@n
Who makes the best drum machines out there? The one I had was built in to my keyboard. I'm just kinda curious who makes them and what they're like.

Snowman
Of course! But my fave is the former DT keyboardist Kevin Moore. Too bad he quit (Jordan Rudess does a very good job) and started making this Chroma Key stuff!

What's that like? Is that a new or old one? It is the latest (and the last (I think)) addition to the Triton series. It is (As it states on the keyboard): It's everything Triton taken to the the extreme! The whole ROM from the Studio edition, plus a couple of hundred new programs. In total 1344 programs and 1280 combinations. I have also the MOSS card, so I have a few additional program/combinations. It has also a tube-driven Valve Force circuitry that can be used as an insert effect or on the final outputs, adding just the right amount of warmth or snarl to your sound. It is mega cool, and I think Korg are the first to have this (dont know if its going to be a hit or not). Here's a link to Korg's homepage: My Webpage Here's a pic of the monster (the Valve Force are the blue bulb up in the left corner): http://www.sound1.no/images/product_images_big/korg_triton_extreme.jpg
