The Lackey
Has anyone ever noticed the similarity to the opening of Tom Sawyer and the live version of "I know What I Like" on Genesis' "Seconds Out" album? I was surprised when I heard the Genesis song. The intro to Tom Sawyer is so great, the low synth and the drum beat. But it turns out it was a great intro in 1976/77 for Genesis with Bill Bruford on drums. Not that Rush was copying! I just wonder if anyone else has ever noticed this similarity. See if this link works to hear the Genesis tune: http://preview.mp3sugar.com/f/263534.mp3 (Tom Sawyer is still better)
Midway Hawker
Yeah, it's similar.. But not really the same.. Tom Sawyer is much more powerful.. I'd be shocked to learn that there was any inspiration from that Genesis song. Nice observation though.
madra sneachta
Never struck me before to be honest, but now that you mention it, there is a similarity. TS is more punchy and powerful though, and fits more neatly into a 'song' structure, if that makes sense. I'm more familiar with the 'Selling England By The Pound' version of IKWIL than the live one though.
