Pretty sad isn't it? Yeah, Limelight and Freewill should definitely be up there IMHO. Limelight solo sucks. Freewill is good though. La villa would be a good one for the top 100. madra sneachta
QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Jan 26 2006, 03:02 PM) No Rory Gallagher????????? My thoughts entirely. A bit of Scott Gorham / Brian Robertson wouldn't have gone amiss either, not to mention Eric Bell. One of my favourite solos is the live version of "Beyond The Realms Of Death" by Judas Priest. nebbish
I think the list is full of popular rock songs and not fantastic guitar solos
Rob
Polls like this 100 best guitar solos one are just pointless crud. It's like having a poll of the 100 best cheeses...it's totally subjective and the quality of a piece of cheese is often nothing to do with how difficult it is to make. In fact, some cheeses are better because they have been kept simple, rather like some of the best guitar solos. Actually, while I'm here, here's my top three... 1. Pecorino Nero 2. Roomano 3. Roquefort Pass the port and biscuits.

D-13
QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Jan 26 2006, 01:46 AM) QUOTE (Moonraker @ Jan 25 2006, 01:49 AM) Of course, Stairway To Heaven is #1. Why is it I cant even listen to that song anymore without having to hit the next track button or change the radio station? I'm actually proud of the fact that I've played guitar all these years and DON'T know how to play "Stairway." I never had the desire to learn it. I'm also not surprised to see Page's sloppy-as-shit "Heartbreaker" solo on there. I'm sorry....sloppy? Shit? Are you kidding me? Jimmy page is god and he ripped. Yeah but I don't think he should be number one though...there are other great solos. Stairway to Heaven kicks major ass. Right. WTF is with Nirvana? Ahead of SRV? Gimme a break! 26. song: Smells Like Teen Spirit guitarist: Kurt Cobain band: Nirvana album: Nevermind more: Smells Like Teen Spirit tab 27. song: Pride and Joy guitarist: Stevie Ray Vaughan band: Stevie Ray Vaughan album: Texas Flood more: Pride And Joy tab What the hell? This list sucks!

Iron Maiden-Phantom of the Opera, Alexander the Great, Rime of the..., Powerslave, Infinite Dreams, Wasted Years, Somewhere in Time, and many more by Smith/Murray/Gers! Pretty sad isn't it? Yeah, Limelight and Freewill should definitely be up there IMHO. Limelight is actually my favorite Rush solo. I know it's definitely not Lifeson's best but I still like it for my own reasons. I think the thing is with these lists is that they confuse what they like with what's best. Stairway To Heaven is a good solo but it definitely isn't the best. It's not the best Page's done.
Mustard Death
I love how they have dumbass stuff like Stairway to Heaven and Alive on there, but no Spastic Ink whatsoever. Pearl Jam? Are you f***ing kidding me? Great band, but worthy of a list like that? I think not.

tepes22b
"Bulls on Parade" over "Fade to Black?" "Black Hole Sun" was a mess of noise, wtf? They totally missed "Limelight," come on! That is the guitar solo. The one that made me wish I was as good with a tremolo as Lerxst.
frouse
QUOTE (Earthshine @ Mar 11 2006, 03:27 AM) Any solo by Dave Murray beats this list.. Yes , I agree! frouse
Oh, somebody mentioned Scorpions solos earlier in this thread. I really find them riveting-both those by Uli and those by Matthias, although I'm personally more fond of listening to the latter. They're an amazing doze energy and melody for me
