How in the hell Freddie Mercury isnt on top of everyone's list, I dont know, heh. I also tend to prefer vocalists who sing in baratone, because I can sing along to them without sounding like I'm still going through puberty on the high notes. Anyway here are some of my favorites.

Freddie Mercury

Geoff Tate

Bruce Dickenson

Jim Morrison

Roger Daltrey

Dave Gahan

David Bowie

Chris Cornell

Mark Knopfler

Ian Anderson

Tick, you're right, and I agree with most of those mentioned here. Freddie Mercury is a one-of-a-kind vocalist. There are a lot of underappreciated singers out there. However, think of this: a lot of people (I don't include myself or anyone else here necessarily) hate Geddy Lee's voice, yet like Rush. Sometimes an awesome band can have an annoying singer. That being said, I think Geds has an awesome voice, and he's just different.

Sometimes a great singer can take a lame or so-so band to a higher level. I think Amy Lee of Evanescence is a great example. ::waits for the flames:: ph34r.gif
