It`s a frustrating record, IMHO. Lyrically, I feel an affinity with a few songs, Middletown Dreams and Marathon particularly (but not the Hagar-esque The Big Money). Musically, Alex rarely gets the chance to shine and the pop-song length and formula isn`t for me. It`s a worrying glimpse of what was coming next.

Manhattan Project, no big reason, I like it. I had to pick something though. It's probably my least fave of the 7 remaining.

(edited to put a comma after reason)

Amazingly I voted to eliminate Middletown Dreams. I love that song, but everything else is just a bit closer to my heart. Voted to immune Grand Designs. I think it's one of the most underrated songs in their catalogue.

For an early round, there seems to be quite a spread across the elimination voting.

What does that suggest?

Either Power Windows is fairly consistent across the boards,

or

Power Windows is chock full of weak material.

It's glass half full or half empty time!!

Well to kind of follow on from what you're saying, others may disagree but I've always found the songs a bit 'samey'.

Well the 5 apart from Big Money, Grand Designs and Middletown Dreams.

These latter 2 have a similar feel to each other as well in my opinion with Big Money being 'kinda' different to all others as a Sammy Hager-esque rocker (as some other poster suggested).

As to whether it's a weak or strong across the board, that's another thing...

Both are true.

It's a tie between Grand Designs, Manhattan Project and Territories

One of these things is not like the other.

One of these things is not like the other.

And now it's no longer tied.

Could have saved time and axed all three.

In immunes, and eliminates, the song "Grand Designs" wasn't tied with "Manhattan Project", and "Territories" because it had two immunes, and three eliminates, and "Manhattan Project", and "Territories" had three immunes, and four eliminates before. Now, "Manhattan Project", and "Territories" have three immunes, which is the same, but five eliminates. For the overall themes, and topics of the songs, they focus primarily on manifestations of power. The song "Manhattan Project" is about the development and explosion of the first American nuclear weapon, and "Territories" comments on nationalism around the world. To me, and add, the song "the Big Money" hasn't been a Van Halen song because it has a different title, and is different in ways to their "Big Fat Money" from their "Balance" c.d., and album. I see a couple, or few people don't want to consistently pick, and choose Rush's songs. Edited by Derek19
