I don’t think much of his writing was catchy in a pop sense. But it was authentic. Up to the 90s there was an earnestness in the delivery. A song like New World Man, or Analog Kid, sounds like a person really trying to communicate with his audience.

 

I think Neil was trying to have an honest conversation with one listener. I certainly felt that he was talking to me when I was a kid.
