2018 I spent the entire 2018-2019 school year in Rome just absorbing it's indescribable wealth of beauty and culture and architecture. For the length and quality of that experience it's pretty hard to top.

2017 I struggled more than I ever have keeping my grades up and making real friends at college, then worked a long, exhausting, hot summer job helping lay tile for a soon-to-be-proven incompetent contractor, then started another school year chasing a girl who would eventually just decimate my self-confidence for the first few weeks of 2018. Not like there weren't many good things, but overall my worst academic performance mixed with one of my least fun summers and failed attempt at a relationship to boot. Would rather not relive that year if I had to choose.

Sounds like a helluva comeback year in 2018-2019! Rome’s pretty awesome, isn’t it? (To say the least)

2016 was the best, for sure. I retired and homeschooled my son for the year. We captured that experience in a blog:

2013 would be second best, as that was the year I toured Europe with my daughter.

2019 was the worst, I guess. I unretired, worked way too much, and hardly skied at all.

2013 - Got early retirement

2016 - Mum took ill

Sorry to hear that.

Thanks! She needed open heart surgery which was not great for someone her age. She recovered to a degree but her health has been

problematical since then. But she is still with us and, if we can keep Covid-19 at bay, we hopefully have her with us for a few more years yet.

I had forgotten that 2016 was also the year of my trip to Ireland! What a great year it was.
