Disturbing pants notwithstanding, this is pretty f***ing great.

Joyous.

EVH’s solo is insanity.

Band was never this tight with Roth. Not better perhaps, but you can’t deny the top form level they are playing and singing at here.

The version of Live Without a Net is amazing as well, and Eddie's solo is completely different from this one. Actually, both are different from the studio version. That says a lot about how much gas he had in the tank during those first years with Sammy.

5150 > 1984

Not better than 1984 for me, but I’ll give it the nod over Diver Down any day. Who knows, it could even get over Fair Warning...

I’ll be flayed for that, lol.

Diver Down kicks ass. Whatever you feel about the covers, the original material on the album are amazing. "Hang 'Em High," "Secrets," "Little Guitars," "The Full Bug" and the instrumentals...

I will say that as much as I like his music, Sammy is in the running for worst lyricist in history.

Oh yeah

Yeah, she's gotta have soul

Or it won't feel right

Well, just plain, clean and simple

Wrapped up nice n' tight

And homegrown and down-home, that makes one

Cookin' up that old time, long lost recipe for me, woh

It's gettin' hard to find

Guess it ain't hip enough now

You take an average guy, he can't identify, uh

And there's a short supply of her fine, fine stuff

Lemme get on, lemme get on, lemme get on some of that

Shake it up, bake it up nice, uh

Lemme get on, lemme get on, lemme get on all that

I so love my baby's poundcake

Homegrown and down-home, ooh yeah, that's the one

Still cookin' with that old time, long lost recipe

Lemme get on some of that

Uh ah, uh ho, uh ah, uh ho

I want some of that, uh ah, uh ho

Gimme some of that, uh ah, uh ho ow

Oh, got some real fine pound, poundcake, ah

I've been out there

Tried a little bit of everything

But it's all sex without love

I found the real thing is poundcake

Homegrown and down-home, yeah that's the one

Still cookin' with that old time, long lost recipe, yeah woo

She's down-home and down-home, oh, that's my woman

Gimme some of that of

Uh ah, uh ho

Uh ah, uh ho

Lemme hold that

Uh ah, uh ho, uh, uh ah, uh ho

Homegrown and down-home, woo

Come on babe

Gimme some of that, gimme some of that

Homegrown, way down-home, yeah

Uh ah, uh ho, yeah, gimme some of that, woo

C'mon baby

Homegrown, homegrown, down-home

Suckers walk, money talks!

But it can't touch my three lock box!

Uh! Oh, yeah!

Mysteries of the days of old.

You find the key, you got the gold.

One, two, three lock box.

One, two, three lock box.

One, two, three lock box.

One, two, three lock box.

Treasure's here, sunken there.

Buried treasure's everywhere.

One, two, three lock box.

One, two, three lock box.

Don't go far, circle close.

The father, son, the holy ghost.

To the trinity, I raise a toast!

Ahh, yea!

One, two, three lock box.

One, two, three lock box.

One, two, three lock box.

One, two, three lock box.

-solo-

Secrets of the trinity lie within the number three.

Uh! Hey!

One, two, three lock box.

One, two, three lock box.

One, two, three lock box.

One, two, three lock box.

(Three Lock Box)

One, two, three lock box.

One, two, three lock box.

(Three Lock Box)

One, two, three lock box.

One, two, three lock box.

(Three Lock Box)

Slip and slide. Push it in. Bitch sure got the rhythm.

Hmmm. What’s he talking about?

idk but that's one of the best VH tunes with Sammy. Love that riff

Top 5 for me. But Sammy’s lyrics are, as always, comically juvenile. I lost some respect for him after reading Red, too.

Spanked comes to mind... same thing with Man On A Mission.

He's also got some good ones, though. In and Out, for example.

The Van Halen lyrics "Slip and slide. Push it in. Bitch sure got the rhythm." are from their song called "Black and Blue" on OU812. From Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, the songs "Man On A Mission", and "In 'N' Out" are good. This question has came up, and been asked before. When David, and Sammy were the lead singers, I've still liked the same, and equally. For, and by voting, I haven't been able to pick, and choose. When David was the lead singer, they sounded like more of a party band, and group. When Sammy was the lead singer, they sounded like more of a serious band, and group, and who can still party to have an even better, and fun time.

I really couldn`t believe how bad the new VH songs from 2004 were, Up For Breakfast being the worst of all -

She put the cream in my coffee (first thing in the morning)

Put that butter on my biscuit (honey to my melons)

Cherries on bananas (gonna need a second helping)

You know I'm up for breakfast so early in the morning

I had tickets for the Chickenfoot show in London, 2009, but sold them on ebay after I`d bought the album. I was looking forward to seeing Mike and Satch, but couldn`t stomach some of Sammy`s worst-ever lyrics. They are worse then usual.

It's about time, baby, come on

Alright alright alright alright alright alright alright, yeah

Alright alright alright alright alright alright alright, pick it up

Alright (alright) alright (alright) alright

Baby, it's alright, yeah

I don`t share the view that lyrics don`t matter.

That's one of my least fav VH songs as well. Listen to It's About Time and Learning To See. Don't know if you will get more enjoyment out of those either...

Notice the difference in quality between the new Sammy songs recorded for a greatest hits package and the new Dave songs recorded for one.

Eesh, those are bad. They were clearly just going through the motions.
