Alice, no contest.

Agree, especially as these guys have aged. Alice's voice has held up extremely well (saw him 2 years ago and he sounded as good as the first time I saw him in '76).

Any of you that have chosen DLR, have you seen/heard this?

That's not his prime.

This is though:

exactly. DLR in his prime beat the others handily.

On vinyl. Live he didn't even sing half the time, as in Unchained from that US Festival link.

Heckuva entertainer, though.

Interesting. never saw VH live so i cant say. so was he lip synching back in the day?

I think the implication was he just screamed or shouted his way through songs, idk for sure.

He either spoke the lyrics or skipped them all together. Watch Unchained in that vid. Or here's a concert:

"half the time" was hyperbole, but Dave frequently bailed out live by talking rather than singing, or by skipping lines altogether.

It's interesting that DLR has so many votes after being slated on here numerous times for being a bad singer.

DLR was a killer front man and really did a lot with a little, so to speak.

The man could work a crowd like the best of them.

I saw Van Halen in 1978 and DLR instantly rose to the top of lead singers and front men.

I saw Van Halen in 2007 at MSG and I swear David must have been channeling the spirit of Freddie Mercury, because he just owned the audience that night...

...this, technically, past his prime.

I saw Van Halen last in 2012 and it was a similar experience.

I saw them in 1984 and it was a great show.
