Interesting tidbit regarding 'May 24th' in Lakeside Park

Hello, I recently discovered that RUSH didn't perform 'Lakeside Park' live specifically on any concert dates for the 24th of May until the R40 Live 40th Anniversary Tour according to here.

'Lakeside Park' would've been performed live on May 24, 1976 at the Mary E. Sawyer Auditorium in La Crosse, Wisconsin (with Blue Oyster Cult and Sunblind Lion as opening acts on the bill), but the concert was cancelled.

According to the Rush: Wandering the Face of the Earth: The Official Touring History book, the concert was "cancelled because of an apparent lack of ticket sales, not present in SRO's records".

'Lakeside Park' was performed on other concert dates on the 2112 Tour.

The subsequent All The World's A Stage and A Farewell to Kings tours doesn't show the band performing any concerts on May 24th.

The band stopped performing 'Lakeside Park' live after the A Farewell to Kings Tour up until the R40 Live 40th Anniversary Tour as mentioned initially.

And ironically the version they played on R40 didn't contain the 24th of May lyric.

That's true as well. Instead of performing 'Lakeside Park' as a whole, the song turns into a medley with 'Anthem' included.

The song was initially premiered live on the Caress Of Steel Tour, but no tour dates on May 24th for that.

The date of May 24, 1975 was on the Fly By Night Tour.

A comparison of each live version of the song below.

^^^ The Capitol Theatre is not too far from where I live and It's been closed since 1989. I attend many shows there but not Rush.

The Capitol would show porno movies during the daytime hours.

The above-referenced Rush show included: Foghat and Montrose as openers.

Here's a list of shows:

I think Rush were the opening act that night with Foghat headlining.

I keep getting the Capitol Theater in Port Chester and the Capitol Theater in Passaic confused (in regards to which Capitol Theater the old tapes I have come from). Haven't been to either one but have listened to many shows from both venues.

I don't know. I remember reading, somewhere, that Rush were headlining smaller venues/theatres during that time.

Correct ! Foghat headling. I dug deep and found a ticket stub for that evening and Foghat was on the stub.

The reason I chose 'Lakeside Park' from their concert at the Capitol Theatre in December 1976 is because it's an authorized live recording by the band.

I could've chosen any tour date from the 2112 Tour where a live recording of the song was posted on YouTube.

The point I was getting across is the difference in how the song was being performed live back then verses recently.
