Somehow, Ronnie's on-stage comment "We are Dio" never quite rang true for me.

Tony R
I think “solo” albums should only be counted as being by band members still with the band, recording and touring.Sting, Peter Gabriel, Ted Nugent and the Post Beatles don’t really come into this category as they’ve gone out on their own or are not a functioning part of the band they were previously associated with.

goose
I think “solo” albums should only be counted as being by band members still with the band, recording and touring. So, best side-project solo albums. IMO, those generally suck, for good reason. They tend to be self-indulgent efforts and contain material otherwise rejected by the band. Presto-digitation
I think “solo” albums should only be counted as being by band members still with the band, recording and touring. So, best side-project solo albums. IMO, those generally suck, for good reason. They tend to be self-indulgent efforts and contain material otherwise rejected by the band. Creatively it's a nice outlet, though. Sometimes band politics or trying to maintain a certain "sonic image" (as it were) becomes a bind where really creative blokes don't get much of a chance to stretch. Or maybe a middling band fellow is not the primary songwriter, but still possesses talent and the urge to contribute yet lacks the outlet. But yeah, they often read as undisciplined forays into mad displays of tinkering (see Gene Simmons '78 solo album). I think breaks in expected style could be forgiven if they more often exercised an ability to self-edit and conceive a cohesive narrative. So often it's akin to barfing up material.
