I injured my posterior talofibular ligament (ankle) back in October

I didn't even know it existed until it got hurt but it took six months for this niggly little injury in my left ankle to clear up. I only felt it when I was running and only for a few minutes, once it warmed up it was good. It just lingered for months, although I didn't stop any of my activities at all, no rest for the posterior talofibular. Apparently it's the least important ligament of the three ligaments that form the lateral collateral ligament complex of the ankle. When the anterior talofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments are intact, it only has a secondary role in ankle joint stability, so the experts say.

Of course I didn't see a doctor, I'M the doctor! :smoke:

So take care folks to never injure your posterior talofibular ligament or you'll be doing a lot of ligament massage and it's a difficult place to get to, right at the back of the ankle inside the achilles tendon.

However his response would be, 'I don't need no doctor'.

I encourage those who're ill to see a doctor. Don't say 'I don't need no doctor'. You'll need to swallow your pride and 'eat humble pie'.

Just more evidence of the dangers of running!

Aye!

I'm not sure I did it running though, that's just when I first noticed it and that's when I had problems with it.

So you're feeling ok now, though? Or still having to have a lot of massages? :P

It was never that bad and only affected me a tiny bit, just an annoying niggle. I only mentioned it now because it's finally better. At first I thought it was tendinitis but I realised it wasn't quite in that area. It wasn't so much a painful injury, it just took away my quick burst, I was running like an old lady!

How often and how far do you usually jog, duck?

About 5 miles, usually takes about half an hour. I'm not a long distance guy though, I'm better over shorter distances. Who wants to run 26 miles like Rod in Toronto? You're just going to wear yourself out.

Half an hour for 5 miles sounds fast to me. I've never even tried running that far. Ages ago i was really fast but that was only in the case of 50 or 100 meter sprints or playing tennis or racquetball.

Well it might be a bit less than 5, whatever it is it's pretty easy for me. It's not like when I'm finished I need two hours to recover or two days. There is no recovery, I'm good like I was out riding a motorbike or I'd been for a Sunday stroll.

Yowwwllllll!! :o

it wasn't that bad baby, just a twinge really. :smoke:

I thought the posterior was one's butt...

The posterior talofibular ligament (ankle). There's three ligaments in your ankle, I injured the one at the back.
