RIP Bill Withers

Recommended Posts

RIP. I loved his music. Lean on Me is such a fitting song for a time like this. Out of necessity people are being forced to lean on people or countries that they normally would've discounted or ignored completely.

There "ain't no sunshine" after reading this.

I'm sure during these trying times, there are couples out there saying to one another: "Just the two of us" "we can make it if we try" "just the two of us" "you and I".

On one condition, don't "use me".

To other's, we have to say "lean on me" from a social distance and try to have a "lovely day".

The group The S.O.U.L. S.Y.S.T.E.M. covered 'Lovely Day' as a sample, featured on The Bodyguard (soundtrack).

I'm sure the royalties were good for Withers, as the movie and soundtrack were each a huge blockbuster at the time.

Bill Withers was inducted into the 2015 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by Stevie Wonder.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame YouTube Channel has uploaded Withers' induction speech today, which is cool.

There's also induction performances of 'Ain't No Sunshine', 'Use Me' and 'Lean On Me' with Stevie Wonder and John Legend.

I just discovered a commonality here.

There's this great tribute article in Rolling Stone on Bill Withers that Joe Walsh penned here.

The common thing is that it was their kids that brought the legendary musicians together.

This made me think of another former member of The Eagles Don Felder and how he connected with Neil Peart in the same manner as noted here.

The sad thing is that both Neil and Bill have passed on.
