Hey sweet! :D If you want more of the get in, rock, get out, their first LP "Does It Again" is chock full of that. Their second one is more 70s/80s arena rockish, and their latest one is slicker and poppier.

#8 I don't think she cares must be from that debut. Another fun up-tempo. Some cool low-end bass tone on it, and the keys are killer.

#2 The World's Best American Band...arena rock, replete with crowd noise! Again, killer bass line throughout, and great guitar tone on the hook. Very Cheap Trick, which is what I got a little from Judy French. I dig.

#7 Another Day harkens to the Sex Pistols and early Adam and the Ants. :haz:

#3 Real Long Time...and it's back to a Cheap Trick feel...blended with 70s a pop rock feel of Nick Gilder or Sweet. Sugary sweet...and I love it. Awesome keys on the break...Brian Wilson-esque.

#4 1F...hmm...this one's a little too smooth for me. Well-crafted, but I guess lacks any sense of irony?

#6 Eagle Beach, from the debut. Nice drum intro...edgier sound, grittier vocals, yet still melodic. That's more like it! J Geils, Bowie, a solo with phrasing that harkens to the Cars' Elliot Easton.

#5 The Stack is another great sounding song with early Cheap Trick sensibilities

The debut is definitely my bag, baby!

Eagle Beach is actually from the second record! So be sure to check that one out as well. 1F is probably the smoothest thing they've done to date, and it's on their latest one, so you might not be much of a fan of that one. The debut and the second album are both all killer though!

The Proclaimers

1. What School?

2. What Makes You Cry

3. Rainbows and Happy Regrets

4. I'm On My Way

5. Letter From America

6. Angry Cyclist

7. The Battle Of the Booze

8. The Streets of Edinburgh

9. The Joyful Kilmarnock Blues

10. I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)

Simple and brilliant folk pop.

I'm Gonna Be is a stone cold pop rock classic, but that's a bout all I know about this band. The vocals and clever lyrics phrasing of that hit is irresistible, so I'm anxious to hear more...

#9 The Joyful Kilmarnock Blues seems a rousing pub tune, and what's not to like about that?

#1 What School? starts as a lyrically hilarious ode to the canine kind. Musically kind of middle of the road, but very melodic.

#8 The Streets of Edinburgh is a beautiful nod the people of that city. You can really feel the country music influence (I see they acknowledge Merle Haggard as an influence). This would be a great Willie Nelson song. Som Tom Jones or Englebert Humperdink in there, too.

#2 What Makes You Cry has a bit more of the rhythmic charm that I'm Gonna Be has. The lyrics these guys put together really keep me paying attention, in a way similar to Warren Zevon (but with more heart and less crass cynicism, lol)

#7 The Battle of the Booze, from 2018's Angry Cyclist, is straight up old school country. An ode to the magic of alcohol. "The first one on a Friday is my highlight of the week..." lol

#3 Melodically Rainbows and Happy Regrets could be a Nat King Cole song. It gets heavier as it progresses and builds to a 60's or early 70's pop feel. Good stuff.

#6 Angry Cyclist...the title track from their latest...another great builder of a song. These guys are real songcrafters.

#4 I'm On My Way...more country/retro pop rock goodness. Not as grabby lyrically, and the first track where I'm ready for it to be over.

#5 Letter From America seems a straight up mod to the Beach Boys and Simon and Garfunkel. Great melodic phrasing. Again, not as intriguing lyrically.

I'm not sure I've smiled and nodded so much while listening to a band before. It really is brilliantly expressive stuff in how it combines the music and lyrics...and the Scottish accents.

Yeah, I can see they're looking to break out with a radio hit on that 3rd album. The first two really grab me.

They've still got some of that old punkish charm on a few tracks on the third one. Raw is a good example of that. But they're definitely looking to get some real radio play soon. I actually didn't list the lead single from that one. Not quite as slick as 1F, but not really as joyous and guitary as Real Long Time, somewhere in the middle. I hear it gets some play on one of my hometown rock and alternative stations. Good for them.

That was all I knew and then I heard a snippet of I'm On My Way in the first Shrek movie. I had a BMG membership to fill at the time and saw they had a greatest hits CD. That was in '09 right after I was laid off from DHL. The songs on that disc bring back such powerful and sad memories from that time.

I saw and met them in a small club show 4 years ago in Northampton, MA. Super nice guys.

Great idea, Goose!

10 Capt. Beefheart & the Magic Band recordings, in vaguely chronological order:

1. Diddy Wah Diddy - where it all began in 1966

2. Electricity - featuring Ry Cooder and a theramin

3. Tarotplane - mutant blues with inside-out drums

4. Sugar 'n Spikes - speaking of inside-out drums...

5. Orange Claw Hammer - Acapella sea shanty. Stan Rogers on acid.

6. Click Clack - off-kilter song about trains

7. Sun Zoom Spark - rawk!

8. Bat Chain Puller - the drum pattern is based on windshield wipers at a train crossing, believe it or not.

9. Ashtray Heart - rawk!

10. Apes-Ma - short and bittersweet

Happy listening! :P

There's this cool indie band from England called Led Zeppelin . . . I don't know what you've heard of theirs, but . . .

So lame. They sound like bad demo tapes of Greta van Fleet.

#10 Downstream. Great slide guitar! The vocals remind me of Timbuk 3 (Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades)

#9-1. I had 9/10 reviews done and lost my edited post. Cursed internet! I'll say that these guys know how to introduce a song. Each one made caught my interest out of the gate. The vibe varied from solid Petty to Georgia Satelites to the Gear Daddies (Zamboni Song). Pretty sure I've heard a lot of these tracks in college and ski bars covers the years. Good music to have a cold one to.

Very, very high. I look forward to giving those bands a listen.

Hmm, try Mandolin Orange, then:

Little Worlds

Old Ties and Companions

Runnin’ Red

Until the Last Light Fades

Wee Bird

Cavalry

Golden Embers

Blue Ruin

Take This Heart of Gold

Wildfire

...and I’m forced to leave out so many other great songs, limiting it to ten.

They are my favorite musical discovery of the past ten years.
