Well This Is It For Me! I Never Should Have Put On "Clockwork Angels" Tonight. "The Garden" Kills My Soul. Neil Was Right Again. I'm A Wreck......

I just listened to "Clockwork Angels." A record that a truly do adore. Regardless of the opinions of others. I've actually been spinning "Vapor Trails" lately and it's coming back to me in a positive polarity.

But this isn't about "Vapor Trails."

I thought I was strong again after losing Neil in January.

This is not the case tonight.

I just listened to "The Garden" twice. The tears are falling again and this is not a KISS song reference moment.

The lyrical content of "The Garden" just says it all to me. These lyrics were written way before Neil was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It's just incredible to me. Also the music is so amazing too.

So I just have to do this on here tonight.

I have to write out "The Garden" lyrics for Neil.

These lyrics are not just about Neil. These lyrics are about us all.

We will all meet our Maker one day. "The cells tick away." It really says it all.

Even when we are in the womb of our mother, we are already dying.

"The Garden" Lyrics by Neil Ellwood Peart I love you Professor. "It is what it is and FOREVER."

"In this one of many possible worlds

All for the best or some bizarre test?

It is what it is and whatever

Time is still the infinite jest

The arrow flies when you dream

The hours tick away, the cells tick away

The Watchmaker keeps to his schemes

The hours tick away, they tick away

The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect

So hard to earn, so easily burned

The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect

So hard to earn, so easily burned

In the fullness of time

A garden to nurture and protect

In the rise and the set of the sun

'Til the stars go spinning

Spinning 'round the night

Oh, it is what it is and forever

Each moment a memory in flight

The arrow flies while you breathe

The hours tick away, the cells tick away

The Watchmaker has time up his sleeve

The hours tick away, they tick away

The measure of a life is the measure of love and respect

So hard to earn, so easily burned

In the fullness of time

A garden to nurture and protect

It's a measure of a life

The treasure of a life

Is a measure of love and respect

The way you live, the gifts that you give

In the fullness of time

Is the only return that you expect

The future disappears int memory

With only a moment between

Forever dwells in that moment

Hope is what remains to be seen

Forever dwells in that moment

hope is what remains to be seen

In the fullness of time

A garden to nurture and protect

It's a measure of a life

In the fullness of time

A garden to nurture and protect

It's a measure of a life

It the fullness of time

A garden to nurture and protect

It's a measure of a life

In the fullness of time

A garden to protect

It's a measure of a life

It's a measure of a life

It's a measure of a life

It's a measure of a life"

I feel sooooo much better typing these lyrics out.

"The Garden" says it all to me.

Even if you agree do disagree, Neil is the greatest to me.

I love him. He will be in my heart Forever.

"It is what it is and whatever."

All our cells are ticking away.

"We are only immortal for a limited time."

I'm embracing my passion and love for RUSH and taking it to my grave baby!!!

RUSH FOREVER!!!!

I love Clockwork Angels, always have, and loved The Garden since my very first listen...never thought about it in relation to Neil actually dying, until he died. I’ve listened to it maybe two or three times since January 10th. Really powerful, really emotional to listen to- I mean even more so now.

The future disappears into memory, with only a moment between.

When I first heard this, I had a relative who had died somewhat suddenly about 2 years before. It messed with me then, and the truth of the above lyric isn't lost on me in life.

Not only are we immortal for a limited time, we are here for a limited time.

Sorry but it's a pretty shit song and no amount of polishing or viewing it with rose tinted glasses due to Neil popping his clogs is going to change that....

Lol

the more that things change the more fridge stays the same.

all that i can do is wish you well!

The only Rush song with violins in intro! (The violin strings wrap themselves around your heartstrings).

Neil playing is so so relaxed, like he knew this was his last song, and he was good with that.

Can't actually listen to The Garden right now, that last 45 seconds or so with Al driving it out, the last studio track of Rush, that final cello at the end, none of the guys taking responsibility for it, is just too emotional, I'd rather not put myself through it

So beautiful and expressive. "The Garden" is not a song I particularly like, but that lyric is one of the most poignant and perfect passages that Neil ever wrote.

I like The Garden, but the line of 'it is what it is and whatever' really bugs me. It's a total throw away line and Neil was better than that.

Oh, I’ve always thought there was some serious meaning behind that line- relatively easy for me to see, anyway- I thought it along the same lines as “Why are we here? Because we’re here”, but with 20 more years of life experience, it comes across as more jaded, definitely.

Neil did love him a bit of tautology!

Hmmm.. "needless repetition of an idea." Interesting.

From the time it was released, I absolutely loved this song and have never felt a song hit me as much as this one emotionally. The words, the arrangements, the vocal delivery, the powerful guitar solo and solo and the emotion from the percussion...simply beautiful.

"The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect" defined life according to Neil himself. So appropriate that this came from the last song on the last album.

I listened to it several times consecutively just last night and felt all of that, all over again.
