A Facebook page I follow (Worship Metal) has a new feature for 2020. One album they deem to be classic every day.

So far:

1/1/2020: Black Sabbath- Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973)

Really enjoyed this.

2/1/20: Death Angel- Darkness Descends (1986)

I enjoyed this even more! A sublime thrash metal album!

3/1/20: Entombed- Left Hand Path (1990)

Another absolutely magnificent metal album!

4/1/20: Metal Church- Metal Church (1984)

Again, I enjoyed this one immensely.

5/1/20: Candlemass- Epicus Doomicus Metalicus (1986)

My favourite so far!

Have you guys any interest in following? I've loved discovering some new albums, it's been great so far. I've enjoyed them all, especially Entombed and Candlemass.

Epicus Doomicus Metallicus rarely gets the love it deserves. It's a great album.

Ghost stole tons from Candlemass. They freely admit it themselves.

Ghost aren't really relevant enough for me to be bothered about the influence. By this point, the entire metal scene of the eighties has had obvious major influence right across the entire metal spectrum of subgenres. Paradise Lost took doom metal and goth metal to the mainstream in the nineties, I'd mention that powerful influence from Candlemass before I think of Ghost.

Got to say, I absolutely adore this album. I thought I knew a lot about metal. Five albums into this feature, I feel ecstatic that I can accept I've barely scratched the surface! Stunning music so far.

So, do you decide what album to listen to or does someone just pick at random?

EDIT: whoops didn't fully read the first post, I guess they pick it.

The page chooses an album every day. They have tonnes of features devoted to all spectrums of metal, I've followed them for ages. I think this feature is great fun as it gives me a reason to try something new every day.

In the UK and Europe, they got to the point they were almost at a Metallica level breakthrough. But it never happened, I'd say the departure from their doom roots lost them a lot of fans. They floundered until around 2008, and have grown a lot since.

But the style they pioneered eventually broke through to the mainstream via many bands that took their sound and ran with it.

I think this is a really cool idea. The only album I haven't heard before is the Entombed one. I doubt I'll listen to it though. The musicianship in death metal is usually top notch but it doesn't take long for that particular vocal style to grate on me.

It reminded me of the debut Iced Earth album vocally, so yeah, I don't think you'd dig it!

Absolutely loved it, but so far Candlemass is my favourite. Played it twice!

This seems like it's gonna be great for you! Maybe every month/week you could list your favorites from the past month/week for those of us who may not want to listen to metal every day, but would still like to check some of these out? :)

6/1/20: Helloween- Keeper Of The Seven Keys, Pt 1 (1987)

I've never really listened to Helloween much before. Listening today, this album sits very comfortably with my Maiden, Priest and Iced Earth albums. I was really blown away by the energy, and the songwriting is super strong. Love the choruses!

Yeah, I think I need to check out a lot more of these guys!

Thought this was going to be about god-bothering metal groups but seeing as it isn't there is no need for me to troll it.....carry on.

I haven't heard any Helloween in a long time. I remember really enjoying those first three albums. They're a band I always felt I should give more attention to but with all the music out there they've fallen through the cracks for me. Maybe I need to change that.

Erm...glad to have finally listened to some Morbid Angel. I neither loved nor hated this.

That's how I am with most death metal. I can enjoy a few songs at a time but then I have to turn it off. The music, lyrics and vocal style all sound the same to me no matter the band.

Wasn't keen on the drumming, hated the "LOOK HOW EVIL WE ARE" lyrics (yes I know that's the point but...if the music isn't doing it for me, and the lyrics aren't doing it for me...it's just not doing it for me), and the vocals were bad.

I really loved Entombed, and Candlemass was epic, in part due to the exquisite clean vocals.

Oh well, can't win every time!

That second album is by Dark Angel, not Death Angel. I know, because Death Angel is one of my favorite 80's thrash bands and I believe they should be in that 'Big 4' (5)?
