Some good songs there. I forgot all about that Lighthouse tune. I love that one.

Number one for me is The Cult’s She Sells Sanctuary. So many great memories of college brought about by that one.

A close second is The Beatles’ Blackbird. “You were only waiting for this moment to arise,” is possibly my all time favorite lyric.

Classic VH always does the trick too. As does almost any AC/DC song.

I had to think about this a minute. I am usually in a good mood and when I am down I am more likely to pick a moody song that confirms my funk.

However- introducing my embarrassing list of uplifting old pop songs and ones picked up from my childhood and my kids' as well. They all have good memories attached and so tend to pick me up! :)

Train In Vain- The Clash

Tenth Avenue Freeze Out- Bruce Springsteen

Accidentally In Love- Counting Crows

ABC- The Jackson Five

Wouldn't It Be Nice- the Beach Boys

Honorable mention to any Earth, Wind and Fire. :)

Feel-good music is kind of a narcotic for me (especially when there's nostalgia involved). I could make a 500 song list so I don't think I could even come up with a top 5. These just sprung to mind first.

It's For You - Pat Metheny

It's All I Can Do - The Cars

A Sort of Homecoming - U2

Black and White - Three Dog Night

The Very Last Time - Utopia

A proper list:

Joe Walsh - "Life's Been Good"

Talking Heads - "This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)"

Sigur Rós - "Inní mér syngur vitleysingur"

XTC - "The Mayor of Simpleton"

The Beatles - "I've Just Seen a Face"

mayor of simpleton, nice!!

My immediate thoughts...

Bob Marley & the Wailers : Three Little Birds

The Beach Boys: Good Vibrations

Bob Dylan: The Times They Are a-Changin’

Great thoughts! Wouldn't know where to start with Bob M or the Beach Boys, so many ups...

The Call -- Let the Day Begin (I literally listen to this song every day)

Rush -- Freewill

Hank Williams -- I Saw the Light

The Rainmakers -- Another Guitar

I might even put Kenny Loggins's "I'm Alright" in this spot, but mostly because thinking about Caddyshack (and college) makes me happy . . .

Lots of great songs on the above lists . . . respect to Huey Lewis's "The Power of Love" ("The Heart of Rock and Roll" is another good one from that quarter)

I don`t think it has to be a classically uplifting type of song, in terms of subject, and it doesn`t need lyrics to lift your mood. Just engaging/distracting songs with outstanding guitar playing for me. Most song lyrics describe sentiments I`m not very good at relating to.

So, Fair Warning, VH (it`s the answer to most music questions). Great Mountain Spirits by Steve Morse, Lotus Feet or Sisters by Steve Vai and either Joe Satriani`s Surfing With The Alien or Flying In A Blue Dream albums are all mesmeric in terms of the way they can change my way of thinking, through awesome musicianship.

I would gladly substitute this video for any song on my list. Mike's guitar the last almost 3 minutes of the song could lift me out of the worst funk, and that smile Tom flashes at 3:56 is priceless. In fact, if I could choose just one song, it would have to be this one:

This was a massive song at school, when I was about 15 or 16 - one of those endless days of summer songs, and I associate it totally with three specific friends, and always will :D

I love it to death. Once about almost 3 years ago, all was as bad as bad could get. One night, I happened upon this particular version of the song on youtube. Mike's guitar went right through me, and Tom's ever-so-cool strutting and actions, along with that smile, saved me. I will always be grateful to them for what they did for me that one night.
