One of your favorites or not?

When things get really bad for me, this has become my go-to song to pick me up and give me the push to keep going. I have Brucey to thank for that. He is the one that posted it once when I was going through a hard time a few years back. Wherever you are, Brucey, thank you.

Besides Marathon, the other two Canadian songs I recommend that have the same motivation and stamina in the lyrics are the following:

Ian Thomas - The Runner (Manfred Mann released their own cover version of this song).

Tom Cochrane & Red Rider - Human Race

Thank you. I'll give a listen tomorrow.

I adore Power Windows, and as much as I love some of the other songs, I have to tip my hat to Marathon for being the best written song with the best lead vocal, the catchiest baseline, the most propulsive drum beat, and the greatest guitar solo Alex laid down since probably Moving Pictures (yeah, I went there).

It got me through college exams many times, it is a good life lesson. I look to this song when I feel overwhelmed.

I've said that Rush's song "Marathon" is, and has been my favorite from their "Power Windows" c.d., and album, and it still is.

the inspiration behind that song is how we are trying to achieve our goals in life and that the best way to succeed is by going one step at a time. I think it's a very personal Neil's song as a drummer and cyclist.

I'd like to point out that Canadians like myself and other's have a role model in the late Terry Fox. See clip below.

Rush was involved with giving Terry Fox a Gold record for Permanent Waves below.

There's a book released in 2005 about Terry Fox titled 'Terry' by author Douglas Coupland. On page 119 of the book, there's a photo of the Permanent Waves Gold record by RUSH given to him.

Also in 2005 there was a Canadian 'made-for-TV movie' titled 'Terry' broadcasted on the CTV Television Network, which re-enacted Fox's 1980 run across Canada.

There was Canadian songs played in the 'made-for-TV movie', which included:

1. Ian Thomas - The Runner

2. The Diodes - Tired Of Waking Up Tired

3. Bruce Cockburn - Wondering Where The Lions Are

4. April Wine - Say Hello

5. Rush - Limelight

6. Tom Cochrane & Red Rider - White Hot

7. Tom Cochrane & Red Rider - Avenue A

8. Stan Rogers - Turnaround

This isn't to be confused with the 1983 movie by Steve Nash about Fox.

Power Windows is a big sounding album and Marathon is a standout.I remember when I first heard it I wondered how the hell they were going to play it live as with the rest of the album but I hadn’t been ‘saved by technology’ at that time. And yes it fades too early.
