Seeing comments, like... they were washed up years ago, Geddy's voice has sucked since this album, Neil has been phoning it in for years. Not only is it a slap to great musicians, but just plain nasty and high and mighty.

They had been working their craft at high intensity levels for over four decades, and still went out worth thier salt and more some. Many of you and myself included aren't the same as we were back in the day. And unless you're award winning artists or highly skilled athletes that have maintained your peak levels, I'd suggest that you keep your bashing to a bare minimum.

I shall now step down from the soapbox. And to those of you that get where I'm coming from, RUSH ON EH!!! #RushFamily

I find it very insulting to the band that this was not posted in the "Rush" section of the forum. Some people just have no respect for the band.

My bad. I thought the section. "Random Samples" with a sub-heading of, "The Higher Level Static Of Talk", was an ideal place, but what do I know, I'm just a Ragamuffin trying to find my place among scheming demons dressed in kingly guise, beating down the multitude, and scoffing at the wise.

As member of the USA, we have every right to voice our opinions. If those opinions don't jibe with yours, it's still okay. I think they all were working very hard right up to the end but anyone who says Geddy's voice was fine, isn't being objective, which is understandable if you're one of those people who say "Rush wrote the soundtrack to my life." Listen to some of the songs on Snakes and Arrows Live, they're cringeworthy. Was he still trying hard? Hell yes, but as we age, things don't work as well or simply change and when you add to that years of singing, screaming, and yelling, it takes a toll. There's no shame in it, it's just physiology. The shame comes when fans can't (or more likely, won't) hear it.

Hate to break it to you but you're not saying anything that long time members of this board haven't read a thousand times on here. You're not putting anybody in their place or getting them to rethink what they said.

I love Rush they will always be my favorite band. But there is no denying that Geddy's voice was shot during their last few tours. Nobody is putting down the effort they put in but there were some very obvious things that were in decline and Geddy's voice was the biggest one. Neil didn't hit the drums as hard as he used to and his drum solos which used to be a highlight became very safe and nothing special in the least. Alex, I believe was still ok during the final tour. The band still played great but there were certainly some flaws that couldn't be hidden.

You can criticize the band and still love them. Frankly, calling out fans for wrong-think feels very Tri-Net era to me.

Well I think they haven't been worthy of the brand since 1987......you would be astonished at the depths of my indifference to your reaction to my opinion.

I think Ged's voice was just fine at the last two shows I saw, but that was in context of the live experience.  I haven't heard the S&A Live, Time Machine, Clockwork or R40 Live cds/vids, and don't care to.

It's funny you haven't listened to those live discs because I hardly ever listen to the studio albums -- it's mostly the live stuff. I can't remember the last time I played CA or S&A on their own.

That's what makes listening to Rush so special, isn't it? We all find our favorite mode.

I do remember, though, that Geddy's voice sounded fine -- the benefits of the multiple takes and mixing board. Maybe I'll play them again tomorrow; I'd hear some songs I haven't in years because they didn't get played live!

Well, I for one thought Ged sang very well on the last tour. He surprised me with how well he managed many of the songs, both old and new. But Closer To The Heart was tough...he really couldn't quite get that one anymore. His voice was definitely in decline...and Alex flubbed a note in his solo at my show (not that I cared, but I happen to remember it because it was rather obvious). They were never perfect live, but they weren't at the top of their live game when they went out. Much as I wish they could've made one more album, I agree with Neil that it was time to stop touring.

That's unfortunately why I don't listen or watch very often any of the live or studio albums past R30 or if I do its only for a couple of select songs. His voice and singing style was just unpleasant and cringy. And like others have pointed out, I'm NOT saying that as a put down or an insult. I've been a big fan for many many years now. But Lee's voice was just worn out, plain and simple and there's no getting around that or denying it

Rush ain't your mom. It's perfectly fine for people, even dedicated Rush fans, to have any opinions about Rush. I've been a fan since '77, and I've also been critical of the decline in Geddy's voice & Alex's playing, and Neil's apparent disdain for most of the people who have afforded him the lifestyle he lives. It's OK -- they're big boys and can take it. I bet you can, too.

As much as I don't want to criticize my favorite bassist, I think that it can be chalked up to a little bit of laziness on Ged's part. Especially with the intro to Mission and the slap bass on Scars.

According to the ‘froc, Geddy’s been a lazy bastard for decades! :P
