pjbear05
It appears nothing slows Don "Big Daddy" Garlits down. Even Father Time. Garlits, among other things, is the six time NHRA Top Fuel Champion, and the first person to eclipse 170, 180, 200, 240, 250, & 270 MPH in the quarter mile. He is drag racing's worldwide ambassador. He operates a vast drag racing and automobile museum in Ocala, FL. And this weekend he goes for another milestone-at 87 years young. At Palm Beach International Raceway, Garlits will attempt to become the first person to eclipse 200 MPH in a battery powered dragster. Test runs in the dragster, which he started building five years ago, went up to 185.6 MPH. But recent advances in battery technology (mostly centered around weight reduction) have Garlits believing he can break the 200 MPH barrier. Don's last appearance in the driver's seat was in 2003, when he drove his Swamp Rat 34 to a personal best of 318.54 MPH at the US Nationals. Not bad for an old cooter!

blueschica
Wow! That's freaking cool! I remember being a kid in the late 60's and all the neighborhood guys were following him. It's awesome that he is still around and racing!
