When I stopped 25 years ago, I was in the 280 range most games. It took me a long time to get there.

Bowling is a sport.
People don't seem to get the precision involved in sports like bowling, golf, darts, archery, curling, marksmanship.

Just the right spin and speed to resolve a split. Starting at just the right drop point at your end of the alley.  Each split has it's own characteristics.

Just the right spin and speed to get a strike in the first place.

Then take into account your own physical tendancies. I used to pull to the left when I'd get tired....which required adjustments in technique late in the game.

All that kind of stuff.
So it isnt just "rolling" a ball?

Just like pitching isn't just "throwing" a ball.

Obviously you haven’t seen the Red Sox bullpen this year.  :(

hahah I love it when Boston can't throw the ball. Or hit the ball. Or catch the ball.

So I see on the news this morning that skateboarding and rock climbing are added to the Olympics as "sports."

Ugh.

At least one of the rock climbing events is just a race to the top of the wall; that seems clear enough.

Maybe you're out of the loop, but skateboarding has been around a long time and is very popular. Watch some of those X-Game broadcasts and see how many fans are there. It will be no different than figure skating as far as judging goes. People supposedly knowledgeable about the sport will try and be as objective as possible about the tricks performed.

Oh, I get that it's popular, and I do understand that it's been around for a long time (I've seen Lords of Dogtown). I just don't think -- as the Olympic Cmte must -- that those things are reason enough to enshrine something at the pinnacle of sports in the form of passing out Olympic medals.

And if the counterargument is that the Olympics are not the pinnacle of sports, then I would suggest that's also true, and it's because of the dilution of things like this.

Now, if you point out that the IOC is a corrupt body of grasping leeches whose graft and avarice is so staggering as to approach some sort of sport of its own, and adding sports that will increase TV ratings and sponsorships is simply what they do, well, there's no good argument for that!

So roll on, skateboarders!

You'll love this...

Nevada's governing board for high school sports, the NIAA, is considering the sanctioning of "E-sports".  Jocks at the malt shop may soon be bragging about lettering in Fortnight.

In a related story, the Nevada State Legislature is debating a current bill that would make complaining about kids becoming anti-social computer addicts a Class-C felony....

The E-Sports Club came to a recent school board meeting and presented their accomplishments from this year. One of them got an extra $500 dollars for college! I don't know if there's any money for Minecraft, so I may have to get my son to work harder on the more violent games.

Just preparing the kids for electronic warfare and brain games. The airmen who fly drones compare the activity to playing video games. Even the shooting missiles part of the deal.

So there you go.

So there's a good chance that we'll become like a classic Star Trek episode, where two planets waged computerized warfare for 500 years.

Whenever a confirmed strike happened, the "casualties" in that area were expected to freely walk into disintegration chambers.

^^ I never noticed before. That looks like it inspired the design of the transporter in the Mego Enterprise Bridge Playset.
