TheGhostRider
I really enjoy listening to Rush Bootlegs because I’m a young Rush fan and only got to attend 2 concerts before their retirement. So it kind of fills in the gaps for me for all the years they toured when I wasn’t even around so to speak. But I know not everybody views them in the same light. What are your thoughts on this? I’d like to hear what everyone has to say.
Lorraine
Rush bootlegs are the best. They are a treasure, and I will always be grateful to each and every person who took the time and went to the trouble of recording those shows. Today it's easy; it wasn't so easy to do in the 70's and 80's. Many of the boots are absolute gems.
jnoble
They are a godsend if its of a tour or show that was never released officially. That and if they are unedited. All of the Rush live albums up until RIR were edited with songs missing. I had a friend burn me a copy of a Moving Pictures tour show so I can hear what Exit Stage Left wouldve sounded like if it wasn't cut into pieces in post production
blueschica
If it's a halfway decent one, I love them! Actually even if it's not I love them anyway; it reminds me of being there so the extra noise usually doesn't bother me. Hearing Geddy's voice, live, when it was at it's peak (same for Alex's guitar work although that had a longer run) is a wonderful experience. tks95747
Can't get enough of them and there are so many available... It's been my experience that there are more good quality boots than poor quality ones. They have really enhanced my Rush experience and we should all feel blessed that they are available for us to listen to. Some of my favorites are the ones from 74-78...

edhunter
12-13 years ago I was obsessed with them. I started out doing B&P trades, then I got onto Dime. That lasted about a week because I accidently did something which gave me a bad ratio, and a mod was a total douche when I asked what happened. I've lost track of how many I had. Probably about 40 or so, and some Dvd's. Haven't listened to them in 10 years or so.
Planet X-1
Aside form owning Rush 'N' Roulette, I have zero interest in bootlegs How many times can you listen to the same set of songs, with varying degrees of quality and performance? That said I would murder someone for a full version of the ESL tour... :P

I’m pretty sure several of the shows recorded are on YouTube in their entirety.

I can take a journey back in time by just listening to a show and that for me is a awesome experience.

TheGhostRider
Here's my favorite: I’ve seen that compilation. His YouTube channel is pretty awesome. He’s done some phenomenal work on stabilizing Rush video Bootlegs. Hopefully he comes out of inactivity sometime soon.

You didn't just walk in with your phone back then. It was quite a set-up to get a show. Some of the best boots are from the 70's. Seriously, we owe these people a lot of gratitude.

The Cat 3
Anyone who listens to one should be arrested. It is actually the real reason Neil retired. He's traveling about catching each and every one of us offenders one at a time, locking us up until we are able to pay him his royalties with excessive interest, of course. When members here on TRF suddenly and without reason disappear what do you think really happened to them? Only Lorraine was able to charm Neil into letting her go free. I warn all of you...listen with great caution. Your very lives may depend on it. Edited May 16, 2019 by The Cat
apetersvt
Here's my favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYx5AOMtwU0 Got excited by song number 60. Was hoping it was some sort of cover or something new that I'd never heard before. Oh well.
apetersvt
Back in the day, rush.com had a message board forum. Apparently my account got banned as I discussed bootlegs (giving advice to another poster on where to find them). That's how I found this place (searching for other Rush message boards). So, getting kicked out led to me hanging out with you folks.
taurus
That said I would murder someone for a full version of the ESL tour... :P I hear ya - I'm so desperate for a full good quality MP show, I've stitched together a show using as much legit released material and then using bootleg material to fill in the gaps. Hoping that for either the MP 40th or ESL 40th, they release a complete show from multi-track tapes. DO IT ole - you owe us!! :codger:

Well, you don't have to listen to every boot that's ever been out there. Listening to one from each tour is fine. That way you don't get bored with the same setlist.

J2112YYZ
I can't remember the name of it but I remember hearing a boot from the Power Windows tour and being blown away by the clear quality of the recording. It had to be from someone who worked for the band. That's how good it was. On top of that the band sounded perfect both musically and vocally. I was in awe of how flawless the performance sounded.
