In the clearing stands a boxer

And a fighter by his trade

And he carries the reminders

Of every glove that laid him down

And cut him till he cried out

In his anger and his shame

“I am leaving, I am leaving”

But the fighter still remains

The correct answer is Cats in the Cradle. Period. /thread.

Disagree. Think Taxi by him is better. JMO of course.

It’s a great song. The storyline isn’t terribly unique stripped of its specifics. Two former young lovers meeting later in life. CitC on the other hand is a story that resonates with every father and son I’d bet.

Paul Simon is another with a long list, both with Garfunkel and solo.

America, Old Friends, A Most Peculiar Man, Dangling Conversation, Hearts and Bones...

Genesis -- Keep it Dark. My favorite Genesis tune.

Found that man reported missing,

He wandered in his home.

It don't seem to bad if you consider

Just what he's been through.

Seems he met up with a gang of thieves,

Who mistook him for a man of means,

They locked him up then found he had no money,

So they let him go again.

Now he's back at home and happy

Just to see the kids.

I wish that I could really tell you

All the things that happened to me

And all that I have seen.

A world full of people their hearts full of joy,

Cities of light with no fear of war,

And thousands of creatures with happier lives,

And dreams of a future with meaning and no need to hide.

Oh, keep it dark.

It seems strange to have to lie,

About a world so bright.

And tell instead a made-up story,

From the world of night.

I wish…

Big Country - Come Back to Me. My favorite "anti-war" song. Stuart Adamson's best songs are his darker songs, touched with sadness (protest, anger, tragedy,...). RIP.

The day they had a party

Right out in the street

Flags and flowers and singing

For the homecome hero's treat

I sat in the kitchen

Without a fire on the range

I knew this house had lost the cause

To ever make me warm again

Come back to me

Days are all too long

Come back to me

You never should have gone

I was so young and full of pride

And you were wild and strong

I never knew how weak I was

I watched them gather round him

When he stepped down from the car

While tears fell on my cigarette

He handed out cigars

I have your child inside me

But you will never know

I never will forget you

While I watch that child grow

Come back to me...

I was so young and full of pride

(I never, I never, I never…)

I will always be here

Fading by the day

I will wash the bloody hands

And cast the bowl away

As the years hang on me

You will always be young

And one day I will lie down

Where the rose was thrown

Come back to me...
