Olympic track cyclist Kelly Catlin, who helped the U.S. women’s pursuit team win the silver medal at the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016, died Friday at her home in California. She was 23.

Catlin was born and raised near Minneapolis, Minnesota, and rose to prominence on the track as a member of the U.S. national team. She also raced on the road for the Rally UHC Pro Cycling Team, and she was pursuing a graduate degree in computational mathematics at Stanford.

Catlin’s father, Mark Catlin, told VeloNews that his daughter killed herself.

I'm sorry, to see, and hear that she passed away.  She'll be missed by many, and a lot of people.  My condolences to her family, and friends.  R.I.P., Kelly.

This was just terrible news to hear.

Over and over again, we are reminded that the face of suicide is often not that of someone who seems to walk around sad all the time.

I wonder if she was on anti depression/anxiety medication. I’d wager a yes.

Late January there was another athlete suicide, pairs figure skater John Coughlin.  33yo, he was facing sexual assault charges, two counts with a minor.

Reading it might have been depression brought about by a cycling related head injury.
