Lorraine
Oh this is so very sad. The man is right about when Frampton Comes Alive came out. I ran out and bought the old albums. Isn't this the same disease Keith Emerson had? Thanks, EP, for posting this! Edit: I admire his attitude. It must be devastating to a person to lose the ability to do what they love so passionately and have been doing since they were so very young. Keith couldn't handle it, Peter apparently can. laughedatbytime
While this is undoubtedly sad news, I think that the title makes it seem like there's more of an immediate life or death aspect to it that wasn't clear from the link I saw which is given below...given how the video started it didn't seem to be worth five minutes. Hopefully his life prognosis is more favorable than it seems like his ability to make music is. PETER FRAMPTON has revealed he has a rare degenerative muscular disease that could inhibit his ability to play the guitar, and that his upcoming tour will be his last. The artist, whose 1976 album Frampton Comes Alive still reigns as one of the all-time best-selling live records, told CBS News he has been making music since his diagnosis with the incurable condition inclusion body myositis. “Between October and two days ago, we’ve done like 33 new tracks,” the Grammy-winning guitarist told the US television network. “I just want to record as much as I can, you know, now, for obvious reasons.” Frampton, 68, learned of his condition three-and-half years ago after a fall on stage, and last autumn began to feel his muscles lose strength more rapidly. “What will happen, unfortunately, is that it affects the finger flexors,” he said. “That’s the first telltale sign is the flexors, you know. So for a guitar player, it’s not very good.” For now, Frampton said he can still play — “but in a year’s time, maybe not so good.” “I’m a perfectionist and I do not want to go out there and feel like, ‘Oh I can’t, this isn’t good.’ That would be a nightmare for me.” Frampton broke onto the scene as a 1960s teen favorite as part of The Herd, before co-founding the band Humble Pie and jumping onto Britain’s charts. His live album Frampton Comes Alive held the top spot for 10 weeks — but for a decade he failed to match that success, and saw his sales drop off. Frampton’s farewell tour will include stops at major arenas like New York’s Madison Square Garden. The musician told Rolling Stone magazine one dollar from every ticket sale will go to a fund he is starting at the medical facility John Hopkins, where he is receiving treatment. “You can’t really knock me down too far before I brush myself off, pick myself up and move on,” Frampton told the magazine. “Maybe a huge door is closing in my life, but then there’s lots of other doors that open... https://www.thejourn...509744-Feb2019/ Edited February 23, 2019 by laughedatbytime

edhunter
My band opened for him in Salt Lake in '93. He was part of an all-day festival. It was just him with an acoustic. On a 93 degree day it killed the momentum somewhat.

My musical heroes are getting old... but aren't we all ? http://youtu.be/VMhPgo2fofg Oh, thank you for posting this!! It put quite the smile on my face. :) And I love this old Mountain song. Hard to believe, too, that Mississippi Queen came out 50 years ago. Leslie West sounds great. :ebert: I know how you feel about all your music heroes growing older. It's a sad reality that I'm having a hard time coming to grips with. Time is going by so fast, and I can't stop it. If I had only known how fast it would go by, I would have done more. Edited February 24, 2019 by Lorraine

Horrible career decisions...well that was the industry back in the day....management pimps you for all it's worth and artists get caught up in it. in interviews he always seemed to be a genuinely cool guy who wasn't all full of himself. that video above shows him just as happy rocking out with leslie in a small club than playing in a stadium. driventotheedge
Many of you may not be aware that David Bowie asked him to play on the Glass Spider tour in '87 which of course Peter said yes to.
