Too bad Napalm Death never did Roll The Bones. They would have had a platinum album instead of making a career out of recording unintelligible noise.

I'm not surprised the general Rush fanbase can't appreciate something that doesn't have lyrics about trees and spaceships and isn't played with a "look how good I am!!!" attitude. I'm sorry you have such a shallow opinion of a them, but if you don't "get it" or like it you aren't likely to ever so I'll leave it at that.

It's worth noting that they invented a genre, regardless of how artistically valid you think that genre is, that's saying something. How many bands on that list can that be said for?

Your point is somewhat ironic, seeing as how you elected to change another poster's choice from "Rocks" to "Sucks." I'm guessing you're not an Aerosmith fan. So you're free to criticize Aerosmith, but criticizing Napalm Death somehow displays a lack of open mindedness?

I'm surprised my Beavis and Butthead ripoff joke has gone this far.

You're free to tell me why Aerosmith doesn't suck, that's how a discussion works

I'm surprised my Beavis and Butthead ripoff joke has gone this far.

You're free to tell me why Aerosmith doesn't suck, that's how a discussion works

Because at one point they were rightly called the American Stones. They're one of a handful of bands who could not play all of their "essential" songs live without playing for around 3 or 4 hours. You may not like them yourself, but they're probably one of 5 or so most infuential American rock bands of the last 40 years. Rocks and Toys in the Attic are two of "those" albums that pretty much every rock fan either does, or should, have in their collection.

But kudos to you for inviting a discussion. We have a few folks around here who tend to whine and cry when you tell them you don't like a band they worship.

Tell me why Napalm Death is worth exploring.

I'm a huge metal fan, I know they created a genre. You can create a genre all you want, it doesn't mean you're actually talented in any way. By the way, I think the lyrics to The Trees suck and I couldn't care less if a band plays with a look how good I am attitude. As long as it sounds good it doesn't matter to me if it's the easiest song in the world to play.

I'm not even saying they're worth exploring haha! They're one of the most "not for everyone..." bands there is. Even Carcass, who I mentioned alongside Napalm Death and went unnoticed, have been accepted by a broader group of people than "angry teens". Napalm Death do not take themselves seriously and laugh when people do. They know it's ridiculously over the top and the opposite of commercial. They're worth exploring it you're into things that are insane for the sake of insanity, which I enjoy. Think of them as if The Evil Dead was a band. It's over the top, violent, funny, controversial, etc.

Is it going to win an Oscar? No. Do these qualities make it not a movie? Of course not.

Napalm Death is human beings making sound with instruments. It's music that sounds noisy, but still music, even if you don't wake up humming it.

P.S. like Aerosmith, they were also in the Armageddon soundtrack: the alternate ending where that meteor obliterates earth! Haha!

51. Trivium- Ascendancy

Ember To Inferno would sound more like the great debut album it truly is if the band hadn't improved upon it a hundred-fold with this genre defining, and in a sense era defining, masterpiece. My love for heavy, and I mean HEAVY, metal started here. Ferocious and vital.

52. No Doubt - Return of Saturn

"Tragic Kingdom" was such a killer effort, I can't imagine anyone would think they could top it.

But top it they did, in a most amazing way.

A perfectly written, performed and recorded album!!!

I might be the bands biggest fan here. I think every album they released is great. I really loved 2012's Push And Shove.

51. AC/DC - For Those About to Rock (We Salute You) In a fairly common theme for early 80s rock bands, AC/DC followed up the massively successful Back in Black with an album which, if it's indeed a different album, you can't really tell at first. One might argue they did that again and again with mixed results for the next 33 years.

For me Aerosmith was long gone by the time that tune came out. Armageddon, incidentally, is IMO the WORST movie of all time.

By the way, I think the lyrics to The Trees suck and I couldn't care less if a band plays with a look how good I am attitude. As long as it sounds good it doesn't matter to me if it's the easiest song in the world to play.

Jake E. Lee was recently on Eddie Trunk's podcast. I don't really care for Trunk, I think he's a name dropper and I think he is the musical equivalent of a jock sniffer. But he does get good guests. Anyways, Lee was talking about the difference between "sloppy" guitarists, like Page or Perry, and guys like Malmsteen, who he hates. Give me the former every single time.

54. Megadeth - Countdown To Extinction

Dave and co cemented Deth's status as a premier metal band with Rust In Peace, a masterpiece of technical thrash that was enjoyable from every angle. But we all know 1991 changed the face of popular music with the grunge/alternative explosion, not to mention Metallica's Black Album catapulting them to megastardom. How would Megadeth respond to their masterpiece, their rivals, and the times? By applying the lessons learned in sound and playing on Rust to a new breed of pop metal songwriting quickly mastered by Mustaine (perhaps after listening closely to Metallica's latest smash). The record is still giddily heavy and rich in headbanging moments, but the songs are efficient and radio friendly. The solos and playing throughout is still top notch, and the production is just a smidge slicker than Rust without loosing any of its brilliance. Mustaine seems to have learned to sing, but it's only a variation on his classic snarl. Everything is meticulously crafted to hit an awesome metallic sweet spot. Rust is possibly my favorite metal album of all time, and Countdown is the only record I've heard that matches its brilliance. Stand out track: Foreclosure Of A Dream
