I picked the ten that I know have had the hugest impact on me.

EDIT: Dark Passion Play should be on this list based on that statement but Century Child is better

1) Tool - Lateralus
2) Porcupine Tree - Deadwing [or IA]
3) Dream Theater - Train of Thought [or SC]
4) Haken - The Mountain [or Affinity]
5) Beck - Sea Change
6) Opeth - Watershed [or BWP]
7) Gojira - L'enfant Sauvage [or FMtS]
8) Foo Fighters - Wasted Light
9) Frost - Falling Satellites
10) Big Wreck - Ghosts

Hard to choose just ten, especially cosidering several artists alone could have filled the top ten.  To be diverse, I limited one entry per artist.

My first thought was "Since 2000? Easy, that's pretty recent." Wrong. We're almost two full decades into the 21st century. I'm gonna try this totally of-the-cuff and see what I come up with.

1. Rush- Snakes And Arrows
2. Tool- 10,000 Days
3. Monster Magnet- The Last Patrol
4. Queens Of The Stone Age- Lullabies To Paralyze
5. Lukas Nelson & The Promise Of The Real- S/T
6. The Melvins- Freak Puke
7. The Mars Volta- Noctourniquet
8. Black Sabbath- 13
9. Earth- Hex, Or Printing In The Infernal Method
10. Metallica- Hardwired

Ten albums... I'm leaving out so much cool stuff. A lot of these bands I listed have multiple worthy albums from this time era. I had to pick just one. It really brings to light that not all good albums mostly came out of the 1968-198x era.

I'm sure I'll rethink this at some point, but a quick run:

Steven Wilson - Hand. Cannot. Erase.
Dido - Safe Trip Home
Rush - Clockwork Angels
Black Mountain - Wilderness Heart
Frost - Milliontown
Dredg - The Pariah, the Parrot, the Delusion
Blackfield - Blackfield II
Johnny Cash - American IV
Muse - The 2nd Law
Jordan Rudess - The Road Home
