Freddie was a hedonist to excess, that is true. It cost him his life but it cannot be argued that the band was incredibly tight. On tour, they'd play Scrabble together and joked about Roger Waters and David Gilmour parking their tour busses back end to back end so they wouldn't have to see each other. They didn't understand that level of animosity among members of a band. They were family. Edited by ShowMeDontTell

I can't see it until Nov. 29th....

Why oh why must I wait so long? Don't anyone dare spoil anything for me!

Freddy dies.

Oops!

I'm sure there will be people going to see this movie who have very little knowledge of Queen or maybe none at all and will be very surprised to learn that Freddy is dead.

Something you might learn if you see the movie is that his name is Freddie and not "Freddy"...

Aw Zumbi i've missed your sass over minute details......rock on dude, lol

Anyway.....i'm seeing it tuesday. not expecting accuracy. just a nice time.

Mick

Oh it’s a fun time finicking over Fred’s name. “Uh pardon me, but his real name was Farrokh Bulsara.” :P

what i want to know is does Fred scratch his nose the right number of times during that one interview no one remembers.

Accuracy people...ACCURACY!!!!!

I remember reading somewhere after a particularly nasty studio argument between Brian and Freddie, May walked into the studio the next day to find a mixtape collage of a bunch of his guitar solos that Freddie had put together for him as a heartfelt apology, along with a note along the lines of “this is how I hear all your beautiful solos” or something. Disfunctional perhaps, but Queen was a real family. I honestly think that’s why John left as well. After all Freddie was the one who’d originally pushed him to write songs, and they were the two who wanted to do the dance thing in the 80s while Roger and Brian wanted to do more rock. I think they were just too close for John to be able to continue like Brian and Roger could.

I swear if Rami doesn’t cover his mouth when he smiles to hide his overbite just like Freddie always did, that’ll be all for me!

John lost his father and Freddie in a relatively short span. It changed him. Rumors started to circle about his marriage ending and a romance with a young stripper. He also refused to play with Brian and Roger after his last appearance at the Concert for Life. He walked. He's been vocal regarding the band's return, feeling that Roger and Brian are capitalizing on Freddie's death.

I'd be curious to see what, if any, input he had with the film.

ETA: I overlooked the recording of No One But You and a couple small appearances...

Roger calls him a sociopath as he's become so reclusive. He does receive his even portion of the monies ...

Funny you would complain about accuracy when you use the name Fred instead of Freddie. Thankfully, you still have time to correct it before Zumbi sees it...

Any of you that would like to pretend that you wouldn't struggle with hedonism like he did if the world, literally the entire world, were at your feet in your mid-20s are fooling yourselves. Some would handle it better than others, but no one would come through it unscathed.

I'm 62 and I'd be fine now as far as drugs and alcohol are concerned, but women and sex would be a whole different thing. That would be a struggle.

the movie was enjoyable. Obviously with Freddie's life it was highly depressing. i didn't really leave the place on high. because of the cloud if sadnness that hung over the entire film.

but i'm not gonna say it was the best biopic ever. but for a night out it......enjoyable.

the big takeaway that this movie taught me.......true or not........Freddie was a dick to Roger Taylor. actually they all were, LOL!!!!! an poor Rog in this movie. just fukkin' beat to hell.

Freddie and Roger had a similar sense of humor and were very close but I noticed the film portrayed Roger as a caricature, weird as he and Brian were very much involved from the start.

I remember them talking about the video for, "It's a Hard Life," and Roger laughing with a lot of love and fondness over the costuming as they were completely indulging Freddie. Also, in the film, they showed the band splintering over his solo project which was absolutely false. They all pursued solo stuff at that time and supported each other and appeared on their respective albums. Roger dressed in drag for Freddie's Great Pretender video.

this film dumped on him. and thinking about it it lowers my score of the film.

it just felt unnecessarily cruel. and made Freddie almost villainous.......almost, lol

Let me state as a full biopic. it was pretty bad. it was basically bullet point, bullet, point, inaccuracy, bullet point. basically Queen did shit, lol. we no more learn anything about anybody we didn't already know.

but as an entertainment.....it worked for me. the musical scenes were shot amazingly well. the actors were great. the Live Aid scene was worth the money ALONE.

so it succeeds on a pure entertainment level. as a biopic......REAL generic,

i'm give it a solid B-

I reveled in the joyous celebration of the band, music and their creativity. It wasn't over the top and very pg 13. Freddie was no saint and I was hoping to see the dwarf waiters running around his parties with trays full of cocaine strapped to their heads... Walking cocaine tables, in Freddie's eyes.

Not one in sight. :/

I'm actually seeing it tonight. Being a massive Queen fan since my early teens, I'm a little worried but I've heard nothing but glowing reviews from my peers.

What say you all who've seen it?

At the very least, I know I'll enjoy the music. Will return to report tomorrow.

I love that you posted this in the Music Section and not the film section.

I can't wait to see this flick.
