blueschica
There's a new interview with Alex in Guitar Player magazine. It's about his acoustic gear and the role it has played in Rush's songs . . https://www.guitarpl...stic-chronicles
Geddyleegenes
So there MIGHT be a studio recording of "Broon's Bane" somewhere? What happened to "There's no unreleased studio stuff"? Where there's a "Broon's Bane Studio Recording", I betcha there's a "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight"! Seriously though; great article. Thanks for posting, blueschica!
toymaker
Very cool article - thanks for posting! Weird that he says he only plays in alternate tunings nowadays. I would be so all over a solo acoustic album of "Hope"-like tunes. He could probably knock something like that off in no time!
RushFanForever
Guitar Player finally posted the Frets interview with Alex Lifeson online, which was mentioned back in late July here.

Ron2112
yeah nice post, and more hope of Al & Ged doing something together Which -- now that three years have passed -- should start with a phone call to Neil asking, "you still digging this retirement thing?"

[Ring! Ring!] -- Hello? Hey, Pratt! It's Lerxt! How ya doin'?! Still digging this retirement thingy? [Pause] Umm....Pratt? You still there? -- Yeah, I'm still here......and I'm digging it like a Caterpillar backhoe, and loving every minute of it! [CLICK]
theredtamasrule
Can you believe that Alex has talked to Neil recently?? To think they both feel great could consider playing a little to scratch their musical itch? I don’t want to read between Lerxt’s lines but it seems like good news!! HemiBeers
Acoustic tour! Perfect! Come up with a few new instrumental tunes, mix it with half Rush, half cover tunes. Have Al do some comedy or story telling between songs and that's a good 2 hour concert. Wouldn't take them more than 2 weeks of rehearsal. Best part...make it a concert CD and cut Neil out of the deal. Ha!

[CLICK] OK, so maybe that's how it goes, but I'll pose the question from another direction: If Ged and Al are serious about starting a real project for mass release, can you see them NOT bothering at all to determine whether Neil is even interested? Would seem just as strange to me to see a Lee & Lifeson album come out and to have Neil say, "no, they never called to see if I was interested in being a part of it." I just don't see that happening either.

Peart or no Peart. Lee and Lifeson are surely greater as Rush BUT are great outside of the context of Neil. Compose new stuff and play. Or just play the classics. They couldn’t lose. And quite frankly, maybe they and some Rush fans are SCARED of what would happen outside of Lee & Lifeson without Peart. f**k that. Go for it I say. toymaker
I'd happily pay for a CD of Lee just messing around on his bass for an hour or so. Maybe while watching a baseball game. And Lifeson . . . I bet he's the kind of creative guy who picks up a guitar and comes up with a riff in 30 seconds. He could probably release an instrumental album a year, at least. Not to be a Debbie Downer but we seem to be forgetting that Ged's singing voice is shot and most likely hasn't gotten any better in the three years since the last tour since aging only makes it worse Edited October 12, 2018 by jnoble

I just don't see that happening either. I was totally joking, of course. I don't get to use "Caterpillar backhoe" in a sentence very often, so I jumped at the opportunity .... But to be serious for a moment, I think the Boys keep in touch quite often. They're still best friends, regardless of the status of the Band. If Al and Geddy decide to do a project, I'd bet that Neil will know about it before we do.

Solution: bring Jacob Moon along who's done some excellent covers of Rush to handle some of the more difficult vocals.
