So I thought with the forum being very quiet lately and that we generally enjoy lists and the like, it could be fun to start discussing music of the modern era. We discuss a lot about older music, but many here, such as myself, grew up in the new millennium.

As such, I am interested in hearing what everyone enjoyed each year of the first decade of the new century!

Ah crap, I gotta remember what year stuff came out in?

My lists would be kind of light until about 2003 or 2004. That was around the time I really started using the internet to find new bands.

For me, the best years were 2004-08! Oh god o loved those years, especially 05 and 06!

Do the lists have to be albums that we listened to during the year they were released? Or can it be of albums we discovered after the release year?

Discuss what you want!

You could say "these albums of that year were the best but in 2000 my ears were glued to the sounds [insert band/artist] from [insert year]".

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven

What a discovery that album was for me. I enjoyed this album so much and basically got me into post rock

I've heard of this band! Are they anything like Isis?

I would not say so, Godspeed is an ambient band. They have no vocals to them.

But I am glad you brought them up, it has been so long since I listened to Isis, I might give them a listen again.

The only Kylie I albums I have are Light Years and Fever ... This thread has got me thinking that I need to go and get her other stuff too

ok, I just looked at her discography, and there are a bunch of albums I didn;t even know about !!! ....

And Black Market Music is right up there with my favorite from Placebo ... with Placebo, it's tough to pick a favorite because they have been so consistently good - but BMM is right there

The self titled, she started to toy with adult pop and indie. Impossible Princess, she wrote all her lyrics and worked with The Manic Street Preachers, as well as incorporating dark trance. The album seems very inspired by her experimentation with Nick Cave. (Do yourself a favour and watch the music video for Where The Wild Roses Grow. Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue were essentially a goth rock band for one small moment in time!).
