The most METAL song from YES?

More Nu Metal to my ears, that chorus is too catchy for most metal purist's sensitive sensibilities.

SSotS is dark, and the groove (like most Squire bass lines it seems from that era) is gritty/raw, but I'm not sure this would necessarily be metal (by any era's standards).

Yes is not a metal band. Square peg + round hole = stoopid twitchy

Most metal bands have never created something as heavy as South Side Of The Sky

most underrated Yes song.

proves that you can be heavy without thrash and distortion.

It's either this or Heart Of The Sunrise when it comes down to it. Maybe the End section of Starship Trooper as well.

SSOTS is easily one of my absolute favorite Yes songs, if not just my favorite. Steve Howe is a madman.

I think it's a perfect example of a Yes song, you have the heaviness of the beginning and the end and the softness of the middle section. Plus it's not so self-indulgent and difficult to listen to like Tales from the Topographic Oceans or Close to the Edge (song) Edited by HemiBeers

^^^This. Chris' bass lines, that jagged, grinding organ sound unique to Hammond, Steve's final guitar solo. City of Love is ok, but pure wankery compared to SSotS.

gates even has the same sort of galloping sound priest and maiden are known for

It's only maiden who have a "galloping sound".

Priest has a pulsating sound. Ian Hill is a master of holding down the fort.

Priest, and others (Styx) used it, but didn't rely on it.

I mean, there's a couple of the new album that have a little bit of that (title track, Lightning Strikes), but certainly that's unusual in their discography as a whole.

I've never heard any at all in Priest's whole catalogue, it's purely a Maiden/Steve Harris thing.
