Thanks to everyone who helped compile the list of great Side A album openers. I'm excited to see how it all shakes out.

 

The list of 90 tracks is compiled alphabetically, which ended up avoiding most conflicts (some bands, like Zeppelin, have four songs). For each group of 30 songs, you can choose up to seven to advance. You don't have to choose seven.

Off the top of my head I'm gonna go with Metallica's Battery as all-time best opener. The opening Spanish guitars are chilling and then followed by one of the most vicious riffs ever written. It's also the opener for the greatest metal album of all-time. Honorable mentions: Mean Street, Black Sabbath, Immigrant Song, 2112 (where are the Rush nominations???), Detroit Rock City.

No RUSH. In the original thread, I noted that pretty much no one opens an album as well as RUSH. I concede them the win. So this is best ever in the non-RUSH universe. :)
