101. Genesis - Keep it Dark (Rutlefan)

"Deep cut"? Though released as a single, it only went to 33 in the U.K. and failed to break the Billboard top 100 in the U.S. Regardless, my favorite Genesis track. Interesting explanation of the song's meaning:

"In the DVD interview accompanying the 2007 re-release of Abacab, the album from which the song comes, composer Tony Banks said that 'the idea was that this character had to pretend that he'd just been robbed by people and that's why he'd disappeared for a few weeks, and in fact what had happened [was] he'd been to the future and gone to this fantastic world where everything was wonderful and beautiful and everything... but he couldn't tell anybody that, because no one would believe him and the powers that be kept him silent.'"

105. Deep Purple - Child in Time

Not entirely sure if this qualifies as a "deep track" or "deep cut" but I personally have never heard it on the radio(not counting online, deep tracks or independent/college radio) and it wasn't a hit so that should be good enough. It's a pretty killer song regardless.

It hasn't really been brought up yet(afaik)so I'm wondering how exactly do we define "deep cut" here?

Not a hit, or not the equivalent of a hit for bands that don't really have much in the way of actual hits (like Rush in a way).

Also, just think the more obscure, the more likely to classify as a deep cut. It's better to think of it on a spectrum than as a binary. So like, A Farewell To Kings title track (obscure opener to classic but not most classic album) is probably more of a deep cut than Cygnus X-1 (debatable I guess, but fan favorite partly by way of being one of the epics, of which there aren't a whole lot and most are among their best work), and both are deeper cuts than Xanadu (cornerstone fan favorite), which is deeper than CTTH (a hit), which is all obviously deeper than TS or TSOR (calling card hits).

Well, I guess it could get a bit tricky then for bands who didn't have hits since most well known bands had at least some hits. I guess nothing like "21st century schizoid man" for King Crimson or no "supper's ready" for Genesis. I think I get it though. I guess ultimately it's sort of a judgement call though.
