It's My Life, The Thread For All Things Talk Talk

Recommended Posts

So i'm really really into the 80's band Talk Talk at the moment, do you guys like them?? Such A Shame is my favorite song from em and my favorite album is It's My Life. A really great Synth Pop/Post Rock band for sure, thou they broke up in 91 and the lead singer (Mark Hollis) left the music industry in 98ish.

What a great song and a great sound...the video was in pretty heavy rotation on MTV back in 1984. There are so many great songs and bands like that from back in the day. I'm so happy to see them getting new life and new found respect after all these years.

Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock are f***ing amazing.

A very dark record to say the least!

Love the guitar solo at 4:00 in After the Flood. Whoo-wee!

The early stuff is quite different from the later stuff, which is so damn interesting.

Talk Talk Rock!

Need to get the stuff after '86 although I have a few 2CD comps that I enjoy until I do get the rest of the proper albums. That 12 inch original remix comp is really cool to listen to also.

Last listened to The Party's Over about a month ago. Don't really know much about the solo years.

Mark Hollis released a solo album in 98?? I think it was 98 but some time in the 90's he made a solo album before leaving the music industry for his family.

It’s a pretty cool little album; all acoustic instruments (including bassoon!), kinda like late-period Talk Talk unplugged. It’s also probably the quietest album ever recorded, with 20 seconds of silence at its beginning and the same if not more at the end. It’s an odd duck, but quite compelling.

There was a great interview with Hollis in “The Wire” (UK mag) around the time of the album/retirement. I’m sure it’s on the i’net somewhere. Well worth a look.

Rick Wright, Pink Floyd’s keyboardist, was a huge fan of the band btw.

I never knew that was a cover.

I love it! I find the original quite plain

I'll look into it.

At this point, I want to get all of the band CDs before I look for the solo album.
