Finding My Way - Starting off the entire journey, perfect sentiment

2112 Overture - My personal introduction to Rush. Powerful stuff for an eleven year old kid

One Little Victory - They're back baby!!

But there are no wrong answers here, Rush always started off strong and knew how to set the table

Looking at this list, it's clear that they had a real talent for picking out the most exciting song and putting it first on the album.

At least 10 of them were setlist regulars throughout their entire career.

Good ears!

I went with Subdivisions, Distant Early Warning and Force Ten. I'm not sure they're the "best" choices...but the come from the era when I was the most rabid, fan-wise. Subdivisions was the first indication that Rush was evolving into an 80s band, which at the time I really dug - that they weren't some outdated fossil - and both DEW and FT I so clearly remember dropping the needle on for the first time. The Big Money doesn't make the list because I remember it being played a LOT before the album came out, so it didn't have the same discovery value.

My "all time"s would likely be Spirit Of Radio, Cygnus X1 Book 2 and the afore mentioned Subdivisons.

I surprised myself with Tom Sawyer.

It's nowhere near my favorite on MP, but that opening sound- few bands opened any album like that. It's iconic. When I was a kid and that sound emerged from the radio all activity stopped.

So it had to be included. Not even for the song itself. For that initial sonic declaration.

I also chose Hemispheres as my personal favorite opener, and Subdivisions as the first Rush song I knew by heart.

Hemispheres

A Farewell to Kings

Anthem

I could easily have put TSOR at number three, but it already had the most votes, so didn't need my help :D
