Ok this is actually a real situation and I am looking for serious help.  Humor is accepted also :blush:   The set list and order for our first show is shown below. Since then we have added Distant Early Warning and Dreamline.  So my questions to you are;

1)  Would you enjoy seeing a band play this set list?
2) Where would you add the new songs with this basic format?
3) What format and order do you think would be optimal? (i.e 1 long show, 2 sets, 3 sets, and what order would you put them in.)
4) What songs would you add and what songs if any would you remove?

Have at it.  I look forward to your comments and suggestions. We are getting ready for our second gig which we are hoping with be at the Plaza Theater in Orlando sometime in June and I will be basing that show on what I learn here.

Set 1
Spirit of Radio
Subdivisions
Limelight
Entrée Nous*
Camera Eye*
New World Man
YYZ
Jacob’s Ladder

Set2
R30 Medley
Tom Sawyer
Closer to the Heart*
Broon’s Bain*
The Trees*
Xanadu**
Analog Kid
Freewill
Red Barchetta
Overature/Temples

(Encore)
La Villa Strangiato

New Songs added since:
Distant Early Warning
Dreamline

Seeing that you’re doing about 20 tunes, I’d go with two sets of ten songs.

Each set would have 2-3 deep cuts but they wouldn’t be at the beginning or ending of either set.

I’ll add more later when I have time but for now I’ll add this:

I’d kick off set 2 with Xanadu because it’d not only be unexpected but there’s the buildup of that song. Besides, any concert-goer who checks out a Rush tribute band will be lusting to hear Xanadu. If they don’t, they should be executed. :blaze:

Kind of hard to start set 2 with Xanadu if you are doing Broon's Bane and Trees leading into it.

We don't have to do it that way, but that's how they did it on Exit Stage Left.  So we thought that was kinda cool at least for that gig.

The way we'd open our shows was that around the time for the show to begin, the bassist would go up on stage and appear to be doing a last-minute test of his keyboards, he'd then hold down a low E and I'd come up appearing to test my rig and as innocuously as possible start doing to guitar swells to Xanadu. The drummer would then come up on stage and start in on wind chimes and wood blocks. By then people would know that we weren't just milling around, and after the moody intro to Xanadu where the looping guitar pattern normally comes in, we'd break into the Dreamline intro and the show was in full swing. We'd done a few shows where were "properly" introduced, but we liked the idea of catching the audience unawares. The audience seemed to get off on it as well.

Move Broons/Trees to set 1, so there's representation of that era in each of the first two sets.  Put Distant Early Warning in the first set, Dreamline in the second.  You could go R30 Overture-LaVilla as an uber-epic encore jam..

Wow  That is like 36 songs to have rehearsed and tight.  Not sure what your A/B/C's are representing.  Different shows?

Gotcha.  But I love Broons Bane.  It wouldnt be right ( in my mind) to do Broons Bane other than an intro to the Trees.  But I guess they could still do Broons Bane > Trees and not go into Xanadu.

But in the grand scheme of things (in my world) the setlist would be nothing but epics with no songs past MP and some Clockwork Angels tunes.

The best advise is to do whatever feels right for the band and what songs work best for you.

To start set 1 I’d go with Overture/Temples. I’d end that set with YYZ.

To start set 2, as I said before, Xanadu. End it with Tom.

Encore:
Spirit
Strangiato

A few of the deep cuts I’d include (in whichever set):

Kid Gloves...80s Rush fans would appreciate this
A Farewell To Kings...a neglected vintage Rush tune
Beneath, Between, & Behind...can’t get much more old school Rush than this
