Grace Under Pressure is perhaps my favorite Rush album. It will always remind me of the time that I heard it, then bought it. It was released in April of 84, before I was a Rush fan. I bought it in February of 85, after a huge snow storm, and listened to it to exhaustion.

For me, it completely reflects the mood of the time, at the time. It was a Cold War album, and it reflected that time to perfection.

And Red Dawn was released 4 months later in August ‘84!

Besides Grace Under Pressure, there is nothing more Cold War than Harry Dean Stanton screaming to his kids, Patrick Swayze & Charlie Sheen, “AVENGE ME BOYS! AVENGE MEEEEE!!!!”

Very strong period for them, though arguably their "golden" era had just passed or was passing.

Despite Signals production, the quality of material is sufficient to clinch this for me, though the other two are certainly worthy.

P/G contains some of Alex's best guitar work.

Fave: P/G
Fave song: Analog Kid, but Subdivisions, Marathon and Between the Wheels are very close
I can't give a grade A to either of them. P/G is my seventh fave Rush album and I'd give it B+.

Start to finish I think Grace the strongest of the three.  Merits an A grade, being high energy beginning to end.  Signals' production doesn't do much for me, and Power Windows is a bit overwrought.

Best overall track is Subdivisions.

I think they missed a trick with Signals.....the idea was correct, but the execution poor....if it had been a different engineer who understood "wall of sound" production it would have worked very well, as the guitar is heavy and bombastic (even more than MP) but buried too much in the layers of keys....it would have been a monster sound handled correctly.

I agree, Subdivisions is the best overall song.

This was a transitional time for not only Rush and many of the other bands I had grown up with, but also for me, as the direction of so many of the performers I had liked pushed me to seek out music I could better relate to ..

- Signals
- Grace Under Pressure

- Power Windows

Subdivisions is my favorite song of the lot, narrowly beating out Digital Man  ..

None of these albums get close to an "A" from me  ... My Power Windows LP was actually one of the first things I sold on eBay when I joined back on 1998 ..

Added to that were the interviews from Geddy on MTV at the time and Neil in the press attempting to justify their watered down product with very critical jabs at heavy metal and the fans of metal ..

So for a kid who was 15, 16 years old and had grown up with Rush, this change in the band was tough ...

This is a tough one for me as I was in high school when the band was in what I consider their prime. Grace was the last Rush album I bought and I had bought all of the previous albums starting with AFTK on the first day they were available. I still think Signals and Grace were/are very good especially considering the dramatic change in style. Power Windows mostly just doesn't cut it. Some good but too much not so much...

Absolutely love Power Windows... Marathon, Manhattan and Middletown, personally these 3 “M” tracks are always on high rotation even after 32 years.

A top 5 album for me with Spheres, Waves, Pictures and Angels.

Signals is the last truly great Rush album.  Subdivisions is the best song.
