Winter is coming to a galaxy, far far away …
Lucasfilm has just announced that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who brought the epic world of George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones to television, will write and produce a new series of Star Wars films.
These new movies will not be tied to either the ongoing Skywalker saga of the “Episodes” movies, nor will they be connected to the trilogy being developed by The Last Jedi filmmaker Rian Johnson.
“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”
“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss said in a joint statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”
Benioff’s other film credits include the screenplay for Spike Lee’s 25th Hour, which was based on Benioff’s own novel, and scripts for Troy, The Kite Runner, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Weiss’s credits are almost exclusively GoT, but he also collaborated with Benioff on several adaptations that weren’t made and wrote his own novel, 2003’s Lucky Wander Boy.
Lately, the two have been teaming up on an alternate history series about an America in which the South won the Civil War, but Confederate has come under heavy criticism from those concerned about how it might depict present-day slavery. HBO did not respond to a request for how this new endeavor may influence their work on that planned series.
No release dates have been set for the new Star Wars films. The final season of Game of Thrones is set to air in 2019, so Benioff and Weiss will be cleared to move from one George’s world to another.

I think eight Fast & Furious movies since 2001 is too much. Hell, one is too much!

Seven Star Wars films for me. I, II, and III don't exist for me.

2020's look to be waist-deep in Star Wars. Whether that's good or bad is a subject for eternal debate!

What’s SW’s overall record for you?
For me, a “meh” wouldn’t give a movie a W.

like my scores for the current ones.
TFA-8/10
R1-3/10
TLJ-6/10
R1 got so low because i only got really interested when the climax hit.
There is a great film in TLJ. it's just bogged down with SO much padding

Sorry, I meant the entire win/loss record for the 9 SW films released so far. What would it be for you?
In an earlier post, I have them at 5-4.

I thought Last Jedi might’ve squeaked in there with a W for you. But I guess Palp & the gang stole it instead.

So you count the shitty disney star wars movies but you do not count George Lucas episode 1,2 and 3 that is a part of the story 4,5 and 6? It´s people like you that made George sell the rights of Star Wars to Disney, its because people like you that destroyed Star Wars.

Not it's not people like him who made Lucas sell the rights. It was Disney offering him four billion dollars for it. He would have been stupid to turn down the offer. It's also not people like toymakers fault that the recent films aren't as good. He had nothing to do with the making of them. That's the idiot script writers and director who don't know how to make a good cohesive movie. I'm just referring to the newest one myself. The issue with the franchise is now there will be too many different directors getting in on the Star Wars thing and that's what will ruin it. George Lucas is not calling all the shots anymore so there will be no clear direction for a number of these movies going forward.
