The original press release for R40 said it was likely their last tour, and then a year later they released a feature-length documentary about coming to terms with being done, so I'm not sure what the confusion is.

For the most part, it was the fact that they gave us mixed signals until Alex finally confirmed that they were done.

For me, I knew they were never going to tour again when I heard the rumors that Neil threw a hissy fit and threatened to quit halfway through R40 after Alex and Geddy proposed more dates.

Sigh..................just......

Mick

“...that Neil threw a hissy fit...”

The pot calling the kettle black

Neil "threatened to quit"? I've never seen or heard anything of the kind. He committed to those limited North American dates and didn't want more. That's not "threatening to quit."

it's just fraroc pulling things from his ass again.

Mick

Ughhhh....whenever I see the word 'cruise' and immediately interpret it as 'stuck on a boat'.

Have you even been on one? They're pretty fun :)

No and I don't intend to. I prefer the freedom to go where I want to go and be around the people (or get away from people) I want to be around. A cruise ship sounds like a really nice sea-prison to me.

I'm actually really glad rush didnt go out playing county fairs and BBQs. skynyrd is just bunch of random dudes now, anyway. f**k them.

R40 was the "hey, remember this song??" tour. I'm so glad they sold out arenas and weren't paired up with journey or enuff znuff

Totally agree.......I spent three years working on ships and the last thing I would want to do is go on a cruise now...ugh.

There's also the risk of having too much to drink and falling overboard. Not to mention all the things that could go wrong with the weather out at sea. Hard to believe they just let regular people with no kind of training board them.

Oh yeah, sea monsters too. Especially the ones big enough to drag a ship down into the abyss.

And you know how many cruises go through the bermuda triangle? Can't forget about :dweez:

Diarrhea outbreaks are always a blast, but in all seriousness, when you need a quick "divorce" that doesn't involve paying alimony, or dealing with child custody arrangements, etc. they're great.  Oh and motion sickness is just wildly entertaining.  A riot!

Cruise to the Edge is mostly for the hardcore prog fans. How many Rush fans do you know who are really into Nektar, Focus, The Flower Kings, Caravan, IQ, Spock's Beard, Marillion, Glass Hammer, Big BIg Train and several other prog rock bands who aren't Porcupine Tree or Yes, Genesis and all the other really well known ones(or prog metal)? Maybe some would dig it but I doubt most Rush fans would go just to see one band.

I recall an interview a few years back where Geddy and Alex said they would never do a farewell tour.  They just wanted to bow out quietly when the time came.  Neil has said similar things in his writings.  Sorry, I don't have any links for those comments.

Agreed. Enough said. The band is finished and they left the recording studio and stage gracefully.

I just can't bring myself to understand the resentment many on this board have for a guy in his 60s who doesn't need the money deciding after 40 years that he doesn't want to do an incredibly physically demanding and travel-intensive gig anymore, especially with a young child after what he went through in the 1990s.

It's very easy to understand.   Some fans are very selfish and self-centered.  They care only about their own pleasure.
