The idea is the same as the Gods Of Electric Guitar poll we had a few weeks back, but this time we will be selecting the Gods Of Rock Vocals ..

In this, the first round, you will select seven from Group One, seven from Group Two and seven from Group Three ( twenty one total )

The top ten names from each group will move on to the semi finals ... So there will be a semi final after this, and then the final round ..

There are 120 names here ... And like the guitar poll, it was agonizing leaving some names off ... I did my best to take into consideration the singer's impact, which included his place in history as far as being at the forefront of creating a unique style, his ability and vocals chops - and how that translated into meaningful and relevant music, etc

There will be vocalists that deserve to be mentioned that are not listed .. Again, this was very difficult ...

At the outset, I debated as to whether this poll should include all rock vocalists, both male and female ... Due to the vast number of nominees, I decided to keep this poll male vocalists only - had I included both male and female, the sheer volume of great singers would have resulted in far too many vocalists being left off ...

Absent are some iconic vocalists that, although they are universally considered all time greats, lean more towards other genres ie. Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder ..

I left off some personal favorites .. some of your personal favorites might not be here .. Let's just have fun with this ...

A special thanks to Entre_Perpetuo for his invaluable input with this daunting task ... Thanks EP !!

Group 3 is loaded compared to the other two.

That all depends on who you consider "loaded"

I did my best to divide the groups equally

ok, since no one has voted yet, I moved a few out of the third group and into the other two

Dang, I know I helped you with the list a bit...but that was too hard,

Lucky I know who my number one is.

Lol, now I know I voted for him too but...

Only on the Rush forum is the lead a four way tie between Plant, Mercury, Gillan, and GEDDY

I love him, but he's pretty obviously not as universally renown as the other three here.

You put on Johnny Rainbow and left off Billie Joe Armstrong? Overall an intriguing list, though. I look forward to doing it as soon as the Christmas tree is down. (Don't judge me! )

Johnny Rainbow sent me a guitar pick all the way from Italy ... He gets on this list

Seriously, I left off a bunch of personal faves, but I love his voice, so he made it

You mean he's a real person?? I apologize. I thought you meant a little kid that's on a Simpsons episode. . .

So many great vocalists to choose from...

I predict Freddie Mercury will get the overall win.

After much deliberation I voted for old 'Iron Lungs' Graham Bonnet.

Maybe. But this is TRF so it’s possible Geddy can steal it...with Dio & Halford taking some of their votes in the finals too.

TRF voting-wise, I think Geddy is closer to Mercury than Alex is to Hendrix. This’ll probably be reflected in the semis and finals too.

he and his band - Skull Daze - are from Italy, and I don't think they've ever made it here to the states .. But he is the nicest guy and they're working on a follow-up to their debut from a few years ago .... Great 80s influenced metal

Elvis is probably the most popular vocalist that I dislike.

Even when factoring in his acting chops ??

At least with the singing, I’d never say he sucked. I just never liked his voice.

But with acting, oh man he sucked harder than the most prolific porn actress.

I found this much more difficult than the guitar poll.

I found it easier. Knew a lot more names here than I did in the first round of the guitar one.
